Larry-- thanks for the links. It's nice to see some sort of citation to follow up a strong opinion.

I found the first link was the most informative, though this is an op ed, not an unbiased report. I don't see a problem with the Consumers Union taking a stance on something if they actually see it benefiting consumers. I've heard a lot of healthcare opinions. I'm not sure what to think except that I'd like to stop payin' out the a$$.

The second link appears to be an opinion forum. I don't know about toasters, but I know auto reviews come out long after the car hits the market; they do secret shop those.

The last link... Social engineering, really? What do you think corporations have been up to for the last 100 years? What kind of power do you think the CU has compared to Walmart or Apple?

You are a consumer, Larry, and the CU, unlike (insert name of favorite corporate entity), does have your best interest in mind.

Why have you provided a link to an engine that no one is talking about?
Yes, toyota made a 3L diesel. The engine of import, the second gen 2KD, which as I have already pointed out to you, kicks so much ass that they stopped making the bigger 1KD.

Thank you for brainstorming, why yes I would like a more efficient vehicle. What a 'concept'.
This sounds oddly similar to what people have been posting in this forum.
the 2KD-FTV 2.5L intercooled variable nozzle turbo diesel is the prime example.

You really seem to enjoy pumping things, your ego, gas into your v6, and yourself. You hate diesels, we get it. Go to another thread where you can be useful.

The V6 comes at a price premium as well. We'd have to establish a baseline with the 2.7L, calculate acquisition cost and then estimate annual fuel cost. No way to make a real comparison... guess we could get the info off of Toyota Taiwan and convert currency/mileage. I converted mileages from Toyota Deutschland in their pickups for comparison, their diesels were something like 35mpg combined. That would catch up with V6 value-wise fairly quickly.

Diesel fuel aiding in internal lubrication is absolutely a factor, those piston rings create a lot of friction on the cylinder walls. When the turbo is boosting 5lb+ diesels put out ridiculously high exhaust gas temperatures.
"piston cooling oil jet" ?? (this sounds made up, educate me)
Forged cranks.. is there any other way? (i really do not know)

Its my understanding that they can last longer longer because the whole engine is beefier due to the tremendous compression ratio it has to deal with.

I'm unaware of any turbocharged gas vehicle that doesn't require octane 92 or higher.

You made some piss poor attempts to refute/insult me. When proven wrong you backpedal with this nonsense; it seems to flow like diarrhea.
I have yet to see one helpful, polite, constructive or informative post out of you.

You've really set the gold standard around here.

    thanks

Consumers Union...like most unions have become politicized. So yes, they have my best interest in mind...providing I'm one who subscribes to their beliefs & agenda.

Consumers Reports/CU used to be the "go-to" source for non biased reporting. today, there are many more outlets/sources for such information.

although, almost all must be scrutinized...because most do have an agenda.
