Because the reviewer doesn't really care for the truck you criticize him. I guess he should have been a fanboy and just said sweet things about the truck, that would have just made you love your truck more. Poor babies.

To be fair the reviewer said he had the truck for a week. It wasn't like he just had the truck for a day and decided to talk shit about the truck to piss off you taco fanbabies.

    I've owned:
    - '95 Chev S-10(V6,std) for 5 years
    - '96 GMC Jimmy(V6,auto) for 2 years
    - '97 Chev Camaro(v8,std) for 2 years
    - '07 Toy Taco (v6,std) for 2 years

I know they aren't really comparable seeing as decades apart and different era technologies, showing that originally, I grew up Chev fan boy.

I bought the taco because I'm 6'6, small pickups don't fit me, don't need large pickup power. Mid size was perfect for hauling quads/skidoos/snowboards etc.

So that just left nissan frontier and Tacoma in that class, I drove both of them. Wasn't a fan of the nissan styling or ride vs the tacomas, plus I'd seen the tacomas had the racing xrunner model. so I was sold.

Reliability wise I don't know about the nissans. I bought my Tacoma at 30,000km's, currently at 90,500km. Everything that has ever gone wrong on my vehicle I screwed with during my build up and upgrading process except for replacing the blower motor fan. Basic general maintenance and I run all synthetic, runs like a dream.

Edit: My taco got rear ended pretty bad by a drunk driver (I wasn't in it thank god) check my build below \/\/\/ for pics. But you cant really beat crumple zone safety either.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I've put this truck through more shit and abuse in a week then most will ever in a life time. I've grown to respect that, I don't know if that makes me a fanboy or not.

    Trucks I have owned:

    82 GMC 2wd work truck
    88 GMC 4wd Stepside
    93 Toyota pick up 4wd 4cyl RC
    99 Ford F250 SD 4wd work truck
2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd Ext Cab LT
    2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 4wd Crew Cab
2012 Toyota Tacoma DCLB 4wd TRD Sport

The BEST and my favorite of them all was the 93 Toyota. Bought it new for $15K, drove it for three years and sold it for $14K when my company provided me with a truck to commute.

My second favorite? The new Taco I bought last month.

The 2012 is better built, has a better ride, feels more solid, will have better resale, and is generally more satisfying to own. My satisfaction is more important than the "technology" in a vehicle. What missing technology is the guy in the video referring to? If he is looking for a direct injection or "eco-boost" engine, fine I'll take it, but only with Toyota reliability. The best technology is the kind that you don't see. As for in-cabin tech, what more could someone want? Power windows; locks; CD/MP3/Ipod/Sat radio with steering wheel control; simple, effective AC; rear-view temp display, back-up camera; supportive comfortable seats. My 2012 rides better and has more "technology" than the new Lincoln Continental my parents bought just a few years ago. (2005 or so) My twelve year old son installed the bed cleats in three minutes. I'm no fanboy. I just think that for a smart consumer in the market for a pick-up TRUCK, the Tacoma is tough to beat. There are reasons why someone might want a different model, but lack of technology, difficulty in using (simple) mechanical features, and the size of the interior are not among them.

    Regards,
    Chris

    A voice of dissent.

Over rated? Yes probably in that, other than the motor and drive train, it doesn't have the durability of previous generations. After 9 months my interior has more scratches and dings than my Hilux had after 19 years. Lack of attention to simple things like an no illuminated 4x4 switch. The exterior metal is thin, and there is an over reliance on low quality GM/Delco parts, etc.

Someone mentioned that the mid-sized truck segment is dying. I can see why. I'll probably buy a full-sized truck next time.

I don't like the dealing with the extra "size" of a fullsize truck.

This guy is grossly underestimating what new fullsize trucks are going for.

I love the fact that the Tacoma has a "Prerunner," because I have nearly no need for 4-wheel-drive, but the occasional 2-wheel locked is nice.

All that being said, the Tacoma technology on the inside seems dated. My mom's 1989 Mercury Cougar had fuel economy?! Plus, I really like leather seats..stock.

Posting a video like that on THE Best Tacoma Enthusiast website isn't going to generate thoughtful responses.
The video reviewer makes some points but loses credibility w/ me in scenes like the tie down system.
It made me want to reach through the screen.
As a owner of past Hiluxes, a 2Gen taco, a couple of tundras, I think toyota does the best in the mid size segment.
    They certainly hold their value.
No way would I pay 35k for one as he said in the video.
He got ripped off  or was totally upside down in whatever the autoshow was driving before.
And yeah no $hit you buy a bigger truck you get more room!
Wow that is an earthshattering news right there. I would have never figured that out by myself.
There are so many threads here that discuss both good and not so good points of our trucks -- read real owners!

 I am a new owner of a 12 SR5 access cab with a 4 cylinder and a automatic. I have had it one month and have 400 miles on it and I love my truck. I had a 98 S-10 that I traded in on my taco and I don't miss it much.
My Tacoma was for me the best thing on the market at this time. I own a Lexus also, and this is why I also bought a Toyota. I wanted a small truck, but no one builds them anymore. The Toyota and Nissans of the 80's were for me the perfect size for what I wanted now. It would be listed as a sub compact truck today, but it would be all that I needed. I did not want a full size truck that I can't see into the bed without a ladder. I wanted a simple dependable small truck and that its why I own my Tacoma.
I have enjoyed the family that is this forum, and I have made some improvements on my taco based on what others have done to their truck. That's what I see as the heart of my Taco, that the people who are on here have exactly what they wanted with their purchase of the Tacoma.I own another auto and I belong to a forum for it also. I enjoy this forum as much as I do any other.
In a few months the 2013 Tacoma will start to surface and the 12 will become another number on this forum, as the 11 did when the 12 came out. No truck is perfect for all people, and that is why we have a choice in our purchasing. You buy what you like and hope it becomes what you love.

this dude is an idiot. the 2012 tacoma is the fore father of the hilux? does he know what fore father means? and i agree, the rail system is easy. and its probably a rough ride because his fat ass is bottoming out the shocks. just saying, my 11 tacoma rides like a dream. Yes the interior is a little outdated, but toyota is trying to build a quality truck, not an entertainment system.

That review was a joke. Tacoma rides far from rough. That was a pretty biased review in my opinion.

Yes. Am I supposed to just accept his point of view without being critical myself? If I did, then I would be this reviewer's fan-boy, just like you're being.

I think it's more that you're trying to compare the opinion of a guy who obviously didn't like the truck against the opinions of a crowd that obviously does like the truck and is wondering why everyone disagrees with the review. It's not rocket science... the people here bought the truck for a reason. If you're after more dissenting opinions you should try a Nissan or Chevy forum... just don't be surprised if they're just as biased about their trucks as we are about ours.

It's not our fault that he makes himself look like an idiot. He obviously doesn't know the truck as well as a bunch of fan-boys will, so it should be no surprise when his opinions are picked apart. I mean, he's driving a $30,000 SR5 and complaining that for $35,000 is should've come with more features... yet the actual $35,000 model comes with all the tech sh*t he's bitching about. He spent pretty much the entire review exaggerating problems, including the price. Of course we're going to pick him apart. To not do so would be ridiculous.
