    Hi All,

I have about 55K miles on my 2012 6-speed, and the TOB/release spring noise has come on loud and strong. My truck is a CPO with a powertrain warranty good until 70K.

Now, based on the year, it seems that I am not eligible for the T-SB-0365-10 (2005 to 2011 Tacomas and FJs). However, the symptoms are pretty much identical. Should I go to the dealer and request that my TOB/slave cylinder be repaired or replaced?

From my understanding, the noise could be coming from a combination of the short/weak spring on the slave cylinder and wearing of the aluminum TOB shaft that the URD kit addresses.

If this is the case, can I request that the mechanic install the URD kit as well as the standard slave cylinder repair from Toyota? Or will dealerships refuse to install non-OEM parts or repair-work?

Last question: I know that clutch disc wear is not covered by the CPO powertrain warranty, but should I replace the disc anyway while the transmission is out? I'm very easy on my truck and have had no slip so far, but I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for a new disc now to keep it on the road longer.

Thanks in advance for your help! I've done my research but I would appreciate some insight on my situation.

    Thanks,
    -Tory

Probably best to go talk to the Dealer, they may take you as a Mercy Case and repair it all as a good gesture.

Thanks Shaker. Yeah I suppose I should take it to them for a listen and diagnosis. Just wondering if I should try to upgrade the TOB assembly and get a new clutch disc while they're digging around in there.

I responded in this thread that discusses the weaker slave cylinder return spring from previous model year trucks.

Decided not to go with any repair work, as it wouldn't be covered by warranty and it doesn't sound as though Toyota knows what to do to address the problem completely. I have 45K more miles on my warranty, and if I need a fix I'll likely have a local independent Toyota shop (Lexology) take care of it with a URD kit.

Check out URD's detailed response to this problem here:
