The Carfax has very little history for the first 4 years of this Tacoma's life.

Should I be worried about buying it, or am I being overly cautious?

It only has 23,000 miles but a lot can happen in 23k miles

Yeah, it was in Quebec and Ontario. I'll have to inspect it pretty thoroughly

Fortunately onterrible and Quebec have strict mod laws and yearly inspections so mechanically should be good but ya have it checked for rust like every nook and cranny

    Sounds good to me.

So would you consider Carfax a legit source for canadian vehicles? Or should i get a "carproof?"

Neither services are widely used in canada at least on the west coast in my experience. Give it a thorough mechanical and take the for a good hard test drive would be my advice

No problem, no need to fear Canadian vehicles just treat them like any other used vehicle do the diligence on them and you should be good

Carproof is superior to a carfax up north. Carproof is also based in canada and is widely used out west. Not sure why the user from abbotsford said they aren't.
It is cheap and well worth it as any reportable incidents will be on it.

Yes I hadn't until I moved here. Just purchased a used vehicle and every dealership/reseller I saw had the carproof present as part of the sale. My trade in also required a carproof.
Did some research and found that carfax isn't comprehensive in Canada.
I don't know how you get one, maybe call them?

After four years, I'd be weary of switching the lubricant from Molson to Mobile1. If you can't find Molson in your area, Kokanee makes a good synthetic that is compatible with your Canuck Tacoma.

A fair bit of mis-info in this thread. Ontario uses a mix of sand and salt, in liberal quantities - which then turns into a salt-slurry on the first post-snowfall mild day to coat everything on the truck. I've had my truck literally brined on the exterior and underbody. Mods are banned in Ontario? What sort of mods? Performance, appearance, structural? Not the last time that i looked. The police might not like your fart can, but as long as you aren't being a hazard to public safety, or being a public nuisance, then you are pretty much good to go. The only inspections you need to worry about in Ontario is when the vehicle changes ownership and requires a certification, and every 2 years after your vehicle has passed 5 years old, for emissions standards - which means keep the vehicle in tune, and keep the Cats.

Maybe I'm just old and don't get it. There are thousands of Tacomas in Canada. Millions of other vehicles. We don't worry that they live in Canada.
