Last weekend my tacoma quit charging. It is a 2012Tacoma TRD Sport with 4.0 V6. I put a new battery and alternator in it. It still didn't help.

After reading quit a few poss on here I figured it out. It was the 10Amp fuse in the internat fuse box that gives power to the green wire in the alternator plug.

After running it an hour last night it was still working great.

Now today I got about 10 minutes and it blew the fuse again.

For the testing that I have done so far today: (1) Tested the power at the alt plug again. Found the green wire had no power, replaced the fuse. That fixed that issue.
    (2) turned the key to the on position and tested the plug. Power is showing at all three wires.
    (3) Started the truck with the plug still unplugged and the fuse blew right away.
    (4) replaced fuse again, plugged into alternator then restarted truck, fuse blew right away after engine started.
    (5) replaced fuse again, turned key to the "on" position and tested the plug again. All 3 wires have power.

Not sure why after the engine starts the fuse blows even with the plug not plugged into the alt.

Looking for ideas and wiring diagram to diagnose the issue.

Assuming the IG1 No2 fuse is blowing?

Turn your A/C off and see if it still blows, if it doesn't then unplug the A/C compressor and try it again with the A/C on.

Yes you are correct. It is the IG1 No2 fuse blowing. The AC was off when the fuse was blowing, but I went ahead and unplugged the AC compressor and it will run and not blow the fuse.

I would never have thought that the AC would blow out the charging fuse.
I take it after that test that it is a bad AC compressor.

Some very smart people on this site.

I bet it’s just the a/c clutch (ask me how I know)

I replaced the AC clutch 1 1/2 years ago after it blew apart and melted.
This time I am replacing the entire compressor.

What brand clutch did you buy 1.5 years ago?

Yea the IG1 No2 fuse feeds alot more than just the alternator.

Now that it seems you have determined the issue is on the compressor side you need to determine if it's the Lock sensor or clutch coil that's shorted.

OK. How do you test them?
Where is the compressor lock at?

Easiest thing would be to plug the compressor back in and unplug them one at a time to see if the fuse still blows.

Lock Sensor is on the bottom of the A/C Compressor toward the rear.
