You need to get that rep in the truck when it is doing that. Then ask him if that is normal?

It's a brand new, bone stock truck. There is no way I should have to put an aftermarket one-piece driveshaft on it to make it smooth. The truck is under warranty and Toyota needs to step up and fix my truck, as well as the other '12 models having the same issue.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I don't know but it seems to me like the U-Joint not the center bearing. Someone probably "forgot" to grease the joint (if it's greasable) Stupid S##T, for sure. [IMG]

My 2012 DCSB OR has same prob since new, I have a 6 speed manual trans. Field reps also saying "normal" a characteristic of the 6 speed. Bullshift.

I've posted a lot of details on other threads driveline vibration, shudder, etc. At the factory in San Antonio, the driveshaft was found to be installed off center and was not greased at all during manufacture. Dealer greased for first time at 90 miles.

I'm still fighting this and working on Lemon law claim.

Additional problems now: trans grinds into 1st, sometimes won't engage or pops out. Also reluctant to go into and sometimes grinds in 2nd. Field rep says "Normal". Is this related to the drive line shake, maybe.

Toyota USA has instructed my local dealer not to document anything else related to these problems and turn me away. Fortunately I found another dealer in Milpitas, CA who will look at it and has seen this problem already.

Contact me if you want to collectively address this with Toyota.

    comming soon!
I had a similar problem on my 2010 access cab after the rear spring TSB. After dicking around with two dealerships for over a month I took the truck to a shop that specializes in driveline service, they immediately found that the centering holes on the TSB springs for the axle perches were off by just over 1/2 of an inch side to side. This caused the rear axle to be canted to the left with respect to the centerline of the vehicle. The techs at the dealership tried to correct for this by realigning the toe on the front end. This essentially made the truck go "straight" down the road a bit sideways.
The guys at the driveline shop were skilled enough to fix it by welding the centering holes shut and re-drilling them. They perfectly aligned the truck and it runs/rides just fine. YMMV

are you freaking serious... that is such a bummer. mine vibrates too. I dont know why they dont fix this... i mean, you would think toyota has some amazing engineers. maybe not...

ive spoke with toyota about the vibration. they are "working" to come up with a solution.

I'm going to give Toyota a few days to address the video. My dealership is providing the link to the regional rep. If I don't hear from the rep by Wednesday I plan on following up with the dealership. I feel bad for my dealership and the customer service rep because I think his hands are tied. If I get no satisfaction, I'll work with you collectively.

I've been a loyal Toyota guy for years. I currently own an '06 4runner Sport that i bought new as well and my Taco and the 4Runner has been my favorite vehicle ever. I've also owned a '10 Tundra Rock Warrior, an '01 4Runner limited, and a '96 T100 that I sold with nearly 200K on it. No problems with any but this Tacoma. If Toyota doesn't come through and do the right thing, I'll never buy another one.

I can't go Lemon Law in PA until they try to fix the issue unsuccessfully three times. My truck has been back to the dealer more than three times, but since Toyota won't authorize a repair, I'm essentially stuck.

So the holes on your axle were not centred ? Would you not feel a similar vibration prior to installing the TSB springs if that were the case ?

i've had the same vibes in my '12 dclb since day one. now have 4k miles on it and still have vibes. i've learned to live with it... and will, until toyota decides to do something.

If you're planning to live it, I would at least make sure they extend your drive train warranty further out. The shudder we feel as passengers is far more insulated than that the transfer case, trans, and final drive feel.

Good luck with the video proof. My 2011 has a leaky windshield up near the rear view mirror that buzzes like a kazoo at about 75 miles per hour when there is a bit of a crosswind. I made a really nice video of it to show the dealer and they said they couldn't use it for anything because the mechanic had to repeat the noise before they could fix anything. Pretty angering actually, but in relation to a driveline problem, mine is nothing but a nuisance. I hope you have success in getting this fixed.

Just heard from the dealership today. Allegedly, there will be a TSB coming out in the next 1-2 months to address the vibration issue. As of now, they (Toyota) are refusing to do anything for me, even with the video clearly showing an issue.

Hmm this is interesting news. I wonder if this is indeed true and a TSB will be released

Hey, I have had these vibrations and squealing brake drums since i bought the truck, about 10k miles ago. I was finally put over the edge and called to get a supervisor from the Toyota corp. this guy did call me back and I gave him a rundown of all the problems ive had since day one. most fixed, but not the vibration and rear drums. he is supposed to call me back tomorrow to give me the estimated time of release on the redesigned brake pads and the driveline vibration. he said he has numerouse casses on his desk of both and so does every other case manager in every region... the admission of this was great. he said he thought they were close to putting out a tsb for both... i will report back tomorrow to let you know what i was told.

It sucks how i had to go about it though... i was super nice to everyone ive talked to, including the dealership, but they got me with a manager and documented what i told them. I let them know that i really wanted to give a supervisor the chance to help and resolve my issues before i started mailing letters to every toyota address i could find, emailing this letter to every email i could find and posting the same letter directly on toyotas facebook page. I told them i wanted him/her to hear about every problem ive had with my truck and imagine that it was there's and they spend over 30k for a brand new vehicle with problems. i was very nice when i told them, but completely serious. and i have already started drafting this letter. I know some people on this site give this "its a truck not a lexus" accept it attitude, but i work hard for my money and if i can help it, don't let people get away with selling me something faulty. So we will see...

Any chance you can PM me the supervisors contact info? I've been polite as well, but those days are slowly fading. I want my truck to perform like a Toyota. Period.

at least it sounds like toyota will be putting out a TSB for this shake/vibration... i hope that's soon.. mine is VERY annoying even though i try to not pay attention to it. I hope that the TSB rumor is true and not just rumor.

If so, then they're certainly aware and acknowledging (via action) it's not "normal" and is a problem that requires a fix.

Well, I got a call from this case manager about my truck today. He called to tell me he has emailed the management in engineering and that he hasn't received a response yet... he told me he was going to call today and he did, which was good. He wanted me to know, as soon as he gets the response he is going to call to let me know the ETA of the vibration and the drums TSB. As soon as he lets me know I will post here to let everyone know what he says.
