I have a few problems going in with my truck currently, when I'm going 50-70 there is a vibration in the chassis and I can feel it in the steering wheel, when you take off from a stop it lugs and is a rough take off, and last but not least there is some abnormal noise coming from under front of the truck. I've gone through it and tried to find something but nothing turned up. Recently took it to the shop and they are saying the U-Joints on the rear drive shaft are fried and the front CV axel should be replaced. The total that I am being quoted is about 1700 for parts and labor. Does this sound d accurate to anyone out there, that KS for your help

Have you crawled under your truck to look at any of the parts they mentioned were "fried".. cv's are an obvious one. Are they even making a clicking noise when you turn?

... if you're unsure take your truck somewhere else for a second oppionion.

Sounds to me that your wheels either need rebalancing or your drive shaft u joint's shot.

If the steering wheel shakes, it's in the front end. The most likely culprit is an unbalanced wheel or two.

Rough start, like doesn't want to fire when turning over? That sounds like the battery is going. It's 7 years old, probably just old and going out.

Noise from the front? What type of noise? A rattle? A hum? A squeal? Rhythmic throbbing?

I'm guessing you have multiple minor issues going on. Even u joints are minor, if they're going bad. Have you ever greased them?

I have had a theory for years now that any shop will quote you roughly $1,500 worth of repairs that need to be done. I have been quoted around this amount so many times for random shit I’m not even at the shop for.

You could look over any used vehicle and find $1,500 worth of things that “should” be repaired. I think this amount is significant because it’s enough to make some money, but not so much that you won’t consider doing it.

With my Jeep it was things like axle seals that they always insisted on replacing (they seeped for 10 years but never caused an issue), among other things that didn’t matter much, but it was always around $1,500.

I’m not bashing honest mechanics here!

Shake the rear shaft and see if it feels tight. Grease the joints and flush out all the old shit and make notes of how much grease goes in. If nothing black comes out they were dry. Check the CV axle for the same tightness. Any visible leaks? Ripped boot? Splatter in surrounding area? Sounds like a wheel balance issue.

The CV boot is torn in multiple places and grease and shit coming from it, also when shaking it it feels like there is some play in it

What I mean by a rough start is when in at a stop sign or light and I go to take it shakes it just doesn't feel like a smooth take off. As far as the noise it's Screach and a slapping sounds sometimes. And no I have not greased them

Your rough start description is a classic u joint symptom. The screech sound is the wrecked bearing.

Go to an independent shop. Get Spicer greaseable u joints. It shouldn't be very expensive. And buy a grease gun. Grease all 5 every 5000 miles.

Does it feel like the engine is hesitating/mis-firing when you start off from a stop? Is the check engine light flashing?
