Minor changes most likely means shuffling option packages and new paint colors (necessary after the quake). For all we know Toyota might come up with a TX|Elite package that includes the leather seats found on Kanadian trucks....

Maybe they'll offer intelligent power cupholders for 2012?

Ward's only concrete information was a one-liner from a Toyota exec. No additional details unfortunately.

That says details will come later this year, not a new truck. I doubt they would announce a change a month before it was available. I would expect minor changes (like mentioned above) for 2012, and the announcement will be for major changes for MY2013. If they announce it around Sep - Oct, it gives them time to clear out old inventory, and time for people to start lusting for the new one 8-10 months away. Seems fairly typical in the auto industry.

Toyota is pretty hush about alot of their products being updated up until they release them. They wouldnt want to hurt current sales. Hopefully July 29th will clarify at least to dealers and more insiders what the next year holds for the Taco, but with the current info coming out it looks inevitable that there will be some worthwhile updates to the Tacoma. It is only a matter of time since the Tacoma has been following the 4Runners updates.

I wish you could get the Tacoma with FJ paint options. I would buy an olive green or sand colored Tacoma tomorrow if it was available.

^x2... I love that Army Green on the FJs... would look outstanding on a Taco with black wheels!!! The Taco really needs some more paint options. I don't think Pyrite Mica will be back next year. I was out at the Toyota website yesterday doing a "Build Your Own" and the Pyrite color wasn't there as an option to chose anymore.

I'll end up getting white when I buy though (unless they do come out with that Army Green)... plan on keeping the Taco I will buy soon for oh about.. 20 years or more... so white will be the least hassle long term. :)

The way some of these articles are talking, I'm already disliking Entune.

-- Apparently it only does Bing maps. Google maps are much better.

-- It's only a matter of time before unlimited data plans go away. There's not enough RF spectrum available for everybody to have it. And that means a lot of the features of Entune will be useless, or too expensive to use.

-- Remote unlocking and starting from a cell phone app scares the shit out of me. Think about this. It's software designed by Microsoft. If it's anything like Windows, what's to stop hackers turned car thieves from getting into your cell phone to steal your truck?

    From the link:
"The mobile Entune app also grants access to some OnStar-like services, such as remote starting and unlocking, while an Entune area on the Toyota.com web site lets drivers tailor some services and settings to their own profile."

-- Entune is voice commands only when driving. What if your girlfriend/wife or kids are in the front seat. Why can't they use the touch screen while the vehicle is moving?

I'm sure they thought of some of these things when they developed the system. Maybe not all of them, but when they realize they need to update it, it appears to just be an app update on your phone and not a complete system ovehaul. I think we might have to wait until it comes out and actually use before we can can comletely discredit entune.

That's pretty much my objection. I don't like the idea of a vehicle's functionality being controlled by a third party device which you, the customer, must buy and pay a monthly fee to use. And if the software fails to work on your phone, that's your problem, not Toyota's.

As to the software, there's somewhat of a precedent for Microsoft. They quit supporting Windows 95 in December 2002. I admit Entune is different, but at some point you know Toyota and Microsoft will pull the plug on future updates.

You don't have to get the option. It will be available to the customer just like roof racks and skid plates. At least they are finally competing with ONSTAR and ford Sync...

You sure about that? On the new Prius, the regular stereo requires the Entune screen to display the station info.
