As I will be getting a 4cyl, I would like to see a Dual VVT-i I4 as well... the 2.5L I4 in the RAV4 is a 179hp/172tq and is rated in 4WD trim as 21 City / 27 Hwy. That would be a nice little setup for a Taco (or some derivative thereof).

I think part of it is that the tacoma has a very light back end compared to the FJ and 4runner. So I believe traction and safety would come as an issue. Just my $.02

    Rav4 doesn't weigh 4,100 lbs
apples to oranges if you think you'll get same MPG with the added weight

    Are you kidding me???

Toyota Prius gets sporty with Plus Performance Package

    http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110701/OEM04/110709992/1186

This is what Toyota is spending engineering time on! Give me a break, what a joke. We still don't have an updated powertrain package for the Tacoma but they can bring out a "performance" package for the Prius. What a waste.

I'm still fuming about no mechanical update for the 2012 Tacoma, sorry.

I've been told by multiple sources (all of whom attended Toyota's dealer meeting earlier this week) that the 2012 Tacoma will *NOT* have the 270hp V6.

If this is true (I still have some small doubts), this is a major disappointment.

I posted some other info on the TacomaHQ.com blog about what I found out. Will check back here when I get more info.

Huge disappointment is an understatement. Why bother with all the updates and Not include Motor. Is Toyota teasing us and laughing as they read this thread. Lets just hope the looks don't get "BUTCHERED UP" as it's the best lookin truck in what is left of its class.

Just a quick confirmation - the 2012 Tacoma will definitely not be receiving the 270hp V6...only there are rumors of a new engine (not the same as 4Runner or Tundra) in 2013.

    Crazy.

...new V6 or 4 cylinder for 2013? 6 speed auto or more gears?

This is making me crazy. Not sure what to do now. Buy a used 09-10 Tacoma and wait for the redesign. Or push my rig until the redesign does show up? (I was going to buy a new truck last year!)

    Guys,

This is LEGIT information, from the horses mount (toyota)

-New truck has the same 4.0L engine. They cannot update it to the dual 4.0L becuase Japan has to maintain a HP to MSRP $ amount.

-The new truck has a new dash, and the new dash can even be seen in some very late 11 model year trucks.

    -The truck will have ENTUNE

-The front end is more aggressive looking fenders, hood and headlights but is not styled like hte new 4runner.

-In 8-10 months after initial release, a baja edition will come out with fox shocks, lift and graphics.

-No pictures are available yet as the truck is still under embargo.

-Trucks can be purchased in October.

It will be a new version of the V6. Not sure about the 4 cylinder.

No major re-design on the horizon through 2015 - AT THE EARLIEST. This is certain.

That is a bunch of bull s%@# if this is the true reason we won't see the dual VVT-i 4.0L in the 2012 Tacoma!

    The RAV4 3.5L V6 is 269hp and is cheaper than a Tacoma V6!

I'm not going to throw the guy under the bus who just told me all of this but he is a current employee of Toyota at a regional office and just got back from the vegas weekly deal. I have no reason to bullsh*t you guys so take what I said for what its worth but it is the real deal scoop.

Sounds good - my sources are dealers that attended and might not have noticed the new dash. Good work!

Well, toyota gave me 0% on my loan and in 2 months it will be paid off. They practically gave my 09 to me and now it looks like they lost their chance at me buying a new truck. Shame because I really wanted one.

Not to call you out because I appreciate the info, but this is america what does japan have to do with our engine-msrp? If that were the case couldnt they just tune it to have less power but still have the DVVT to make it even more fuel efficient? Like I said I'm not doubting you, just pissed at toyota.
