I have to disagree, I often go straight from one vehicle to the other and the 4runner is not slow. I have read some of these complaints on t4r and I cant understand them. If at any point you are driving the vehicle and want to go faster, push the gas pedal. I can get it to "rev up high" damn quick. We have also traveled together and her mpg at 75-80 is around 20, while mine is closer to 14.

Does anyone think there might be a possibility that Toyota may be keeping the old 4.0 but doing other modifications that might make it more efficiant? I have read articles stating Toyotas plans to make the vehicle line lighter and more efficiant. If they are not changing the motor...there are other ways they could make it perform better in the platform it is already in. Any Ideas on this one?

I hope they do something to improve gas mileage. Hp would be an additional plus. I dont get the whole HP to MSRP thing out of Japan as a reason why they wont do the 4runner v6.

The only way I can think of to improve fuel consumption other than a new 6 speed tranny. Toyota said they will be adding turbos and DI to its line up soon as well, but with the engine staying the same there's not much.

Id take the old 4.0 with a 6 speed auto. Consider it a compramise

If Toyota's answer to mpg is to keep the drivetrain as is and just reduce weight by making more parts out of plastic a la Chrysler you can sign me up for a 2011 now!
