I have never bought a new vehicle before and am wondering, when I go to the dealer to order a new 2012, will they deal on it below sticker price?

Ordering it will give you a bit less advantage in moving the price. It will also be more difficult until the 2011's are gone from the dealers stock.

It depends on a lot of things. Depends on the dealer (manager behind the desk), the time of the month that your trying to buy, what the inventory is, what incentives are available and so on.

as a former toyota salesman, I'd suggest going towards the end of the month and finding a saleman that is close on his numbers to getting to the next level on the commission structure for the month. If he is one unit away from getting a bump in commission percentage, that is the guy who would be good to work with. His commission may be retroactive for the month, going from say....15 to 25 percent of the gross profit from all his sales. trick is getting to know which salesman is where on his numbers. He may be willing to go with lower amounts of gross profit if he is just going to get a bigger bump on the commission structure beyond just your car deal.

That's going to require toyota releasing information about the damn truck first.

It's still a little early - we're only in mid July. If, as rumoured here, there are a couple minor sheetmetal tweaks to the '12, then they probably won't hit the lots until September or October.

I bought my '11 last August, it was one of the first 11's on the lot if not the very first. I still paid well below sticker, but probably could have gotten the '10 for about $200 less. It was worth it to me personally because I wanted black instead of silver, and I liked the '11 grill better than the older style grill.

Any dealer should be willing to order any new vehicle for you for between 200 and 500 over invoice. Be sure to talk with "fleet sales" which is where they do the ordering. If they want more money than that for the privilege of filling out an order form, it's time to walk. (Yeah, a few "new, in demand, trendy" vehicles command more than that for a while, while they're still in limited supply. But that's not what we're talking about here.)

Man, I have been checking this thread daily for a few months now. I am really eager to see the 2012 model, although I think that I am going to be buying a 2011 regardless.
I actually hope that there is a big change in the 2012 body style, which will make the 2011 an instant 'old model', and they will be happy to cut a killer deal to get rid of them.
My strategy is to grab a 2011 in october or november. I went through USAA (which all veterans should take advantage of) and I got a 2011 Tacoma Sport SB 4x4 locked in at $28000, no haggling, no bullshit.

I wish the 2nd Gen was equipped with a:

    locking tailgate
locking gas cap door (or an in-cab release for the door)
    locking glove box
    power rear window with defroster
more scratch resilient plastic lenses in the interior
map lights that light up in junction with the interior light
2 D-hooks in the front of the bed
    power antenna

and maaayyybbee the ability to transform into MOTHAFUCKIN' OPTIMUS PRIME!!:goingcrazy:

Really, a small list that Toyota should fill in whenever they realease the 3rd Gen Tacoma
