2012 TACOMA MEGA-THREAD

Even if this minor redesign is all, I just hope they don't jack up the price. Drop it, if anything. I'd buy one of these if they are priced aggressively (and not be too upset during a redesign year, since I got mine for a good deal).

 

I've been waiting to see what the new look will be and well....................Toyota, is that the best you can come up with???????
I don't like it at all.

 

That's what I'm saying - I have yet to hear of anybody getting quoted an actual MSRP.

I'm curious to the see how much more proud they will be.

I actually like the new front end...but it's kind of tacky to change the front and leave the rest the same..at least change it up a bit.

I dunno, maybe it's just me lol.

TORRANCE, California — The 2012 Toyota Yaris, Sequoia, Tundra and Sienna get price hikes for the new model year.
The redesigned 2012 Toyota Yaris three-door hatchback starts at $14,875, reflecting a $960 price increase over the base 2011 Yaris. The price includes a $760 shipping charge. The base 2011 Toyota Yaris three-door hatchback started at $13,915, including shipping.
In its pricing release on Monday, Toyota said the 2012 Yaris base price is "comparable to a Convenience-Package-equipped current-generation Yaris." The 2011 Yaris with the Convenience Package starts at $14,945, including shipping and adds $1,030 worth of equipment, according to Toyota.com.
New pricing on Yaris goes into effect on August 31.
Toyota said the carry-over 2012 Sienna minivan will start at $25,330 for a new base 2WD cargo van with a V6 engine, including an $810 shipping charge. Pricing on the base 2012 Toyota Sienna with a four-cylinder engine remains the same at $25,870, including shipping.
However, Sienna gets an overall price increase of $174 for the new model year, according to Toyota. Certain models get a steep increase. The 2012 Toyota Sienna 2WD SE in a seven-passenger configuration with a V6 engine starts at $34,250, including shipping — a rise of $2,090. Prices on Sienna go into effect on September 6. Toyota said Sienna is virtually unchanged for 2012.
The base 2012 Toyota Tundra gets a $340 price increase. The 2012 Tundra starts at $28,100 for the 4x2 Tundra Grade Double Cab V6 with a five-speed automatic transmission. The price includes a $985 shipping charge. The base 2011 Tundra started at $25,410, including a $975 shipping charge. It was a standard bed, regular cab model in 4x2 configuration with a 4.0-liter V6.
Styled steel wheels are now standard on all Tundra models. Other standard equipment includes a Cold Area package, daytime running lights and heated mirrors. New Tundra prices go into effect on September 1.
The base 2012 Toyota Sequoia gets a price hike of $10, due to an increase in the shipping charge from $975 to $985. The base 2012 Sequoia starts at $41,915, including shipping. Expect an increase of $500 on the 2012 Toyota Sequoia 4x2 Wagon Platinum model with a 5.7-liter V8 and a six-speed automatic transmission. That model starts at $59,565, including shipping.
Sequoia gets a new standard Trailer Sway Control system. A new Blind Spot Monitor is standard on the Sequoia Platinum Grade.
Last week, Toyota announced price increases on the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser and 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Inside Line says: Expect to pay more for your new Toyota, as prices continue to rise on many models.

Did anyone catch the new antenna on the roof?



The standard antenna mount on the hood still exists, but no antenna is visible. They might have removed it for the sake of the video.

 

I like it. Not gonna trade in for a refresh though. Looks like the fogs are almost the same as the new 4Runners.
I wish Toyota would get back to having all the same lines for the "Truck/Tacoma" and 4Runners like they did for the first two generations of 4Runners. Parts were interchangeable and the appearance covered two lines of production vehicles. Toyota would save money to do it this way. I'm betting the refresh will last at least two years before a true redesign is presented.

 

Hmm, maybe they redesigned the SAT radio's antenna?

EDIT: Wait, maybe they just moved the antenna for the radio in general and just didn't go about removing the mount yet.

 

I think thats the Sat radio antenna. It's different than the standard radio antenna which I dont know why it wouldn't be on the truck in the video. Prob something to do with the filming and prob a non issue.

 

Can you combine the regular antenna and the XM satellite antenna into one?

Come to think of it, SR5 and above are supposed to have LED brake lamps. The screenshot shows the old style brake lamps. (I'm assuming they mean the CHMSL.)

 

Could be a combined radio and XM antenna.

I'm not crazy about its size and location, but it could be worse. Once in a while I haul stuff in the bed that overhangs the cab, so I strap it down and use a blanket to pad the paint. With this larger antenna in the way, that might pose a problem...

I am pretty sure that is the antenna for the etunes and sat radio. Doesn't etunes have some sort of telematics needing an antenna for cell service? I don't think that could be the radio antenna. Looks like the typical "sharkfin" antenna on Bimmers and MBs used for this function.

 

I think you're right about that being a GPS antenna.

Unfortunately, this contradicts recent reports which said only the Double Cabs were getting Entune (GPS). The truck in the photo is an Access Cab.

I didn't think the GPS was independant from the cell service but I may have been wrong. It looks like the GPS and Sat radio might be their own thing and the internet searching and App section of Entune use your cell service. Maybe the integrated the GPS and Sat radio Antenna to one. That would explain the antenna on an access cab because you can get sat radio with the access cab now...right?

 

Not really. It makes sense for Toyota to only make one antenna thag handles gps, telematics and xm. If the vehicle is only equipped with xm it would still get the "standard" antenna. This is obviously speculation, but it is what other manufacturers do. For example, all BMW 3 series have the sharkfin regardless of whether they have sirius, BMWassist or gps.

 

The big change for the tacoma was '11 with the added TX and TX pro packages. According to the dealer i bought mine from, they dont know if toyota will offer the TX and TX Pro packages for '12. Who knows? The TX is really just a styling package that looks awesome and the radio and trim. No upgraded shocks or anything tho . Maybe theyll cook up a beefy Tacoma built for the hard offroaders in the future (not that they dont hold up now).
