2012 Tacoma TRD Sport Start Problem

No distributor. These trucks are individual coil on plug. Could be one coil going bad but you would probably feel a misfire driving around and id bet get a CEL.

 

I realize this is a bit late, but wanted to respond to what has seemed to cure it.

I took it to the dealership and they wanted me to sign for $119, just to check it. With such an intermittent issue, I had a feeling they would either discover nothing or come up with "something" that should be done which MAY fix it, so I turned around and walked out.

What I did decide to do on my own was change the spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body, both of these have helped the quickness of startup and would highly recommend both. The issue has not occurred since doing that.

 

I just picked up a 2012 TX Pro with 99.5k and I'm having the same issue. Cranks good but no fire. I can't correlate with any specific condition and it happens once every couple of weeks. Going to change the plugs and clean the throttle body and see if that helps.

My Santa Fe did something similar I sprayed the mass air flow sensor and the issue when away.

 

2008 prerunner TRD, 6 cyl starting issue, turns over, starts, 2 seconds later it dies. happens again and again. Started 2 years ago.

Never heard fuel pump run when key turned (never have before either)
Hit bottom of gas tank with rubber mallet, sometimes starts and runs fine.
Had fuel pump replaced 2 yrs ago. was ok for a year, then started happening again intermittently. Happens more often the last few months.

Happened again yesterday, heard something different than I never heard before: buzzing sound around top of engine when key turned. Still couldn't hear fuel pump running. ldn't determinme where sound was coming from.

Tried several times to start, failed

Finally hit tank again with mallet, started and ran fine. Has started several time ok since.

Temp outside yesterday was 50 degrees, a substantial drop from previous days.

Hate to put in another $1000 pump.

Also, is there a fuel pump relay under the hood? If so, where?

Ideas please??

Factory fuel pump 2 yrs ago, out of warranty, gonna replace the fuel pump replay,
then efi, then copn

Any idea where the pump resistor is located?
