Took my 2012 Tacoma with 4700 miles in today for first oil change. I noticed a couple of days ago some spots about the size of the top of a coffee cup showing up on the hood.
The service manager said that they were seeing a lot of problems with the white and that I would need to wax the truck every 3 months to prevent it from getting worse. I said that wasn't going to happen.
So they waxed the hood when I was there and I left because I was late to a meeting, anyway you can still see the spots.

Anyone else having any issues like this? They said it was the paint oxidating?

I would push for warranty also...possibly corrosion starting under the paint!!

What would you expect them to do under warrenty paint it? I have heard from others having this problem all over the truck. My fear is even if they paint it, it may affect me trying to sell it later?

I dont know if this is true but I used to own a 2003 Toyota Corolla and on the forums that arent around anymore a lot of owners of white cars complained about their paint starting to yellow over time. Through some research someone found out that Toyota didnt clear coat the white paint. Again this is all hearsay. I'm not sure if there is any truth to that statement. I also wanted to buy a white truck but when my research yeilded no results I decided to just buy another silver vehicle.

The only reason I mention this is because the folks who started seeing the yellowing issue left their vehicles out doors generally in hot areas with a lot of sunlight and were given similar advice by the dealers i.e. polish + wax as regularly as possible.

Just googled toyota white paint issues and found this thread over on tundra forums. A couple posts down you'll see someone else also confirm that the white is a Single Stage paint with no clear coat You're gonna wanna keep a thick layer of wax on that paint all the time or shell out the cash yourself to get the whole truck cleared.

Im hoping to get alot more info on this. I want a white truck because its the best at off road use. Is anyone positive that white is not clear coated? We dont have any white one at work to check.

I just turned 5000 miles on my white double cab and I have not seen any signs of oxidation. I do garage my truck at night and usually park in the shade at work. I would definately push the issue with the dealer though. It should be under warrenty.

No signs of oxidation on mine at 9 months. Kinda hoping it does, maybe I can get a better color match on the fiberglass fenders if they re-shoot the front end.

No doubt white is the way to go, mine is scratched to shit and you can barely tell. 5th white truck for me for this reason.

I went out and looked at my red 07 Civic and it appears to not have a clear coat either. My Gf pearl blue Fit does though.
What are the pros and cons on clear coating and flat paint??

How you going to sell it with paint gone off the hood cause that is what you will end up with. After dealer fixes, put some sealer on it and keep it on there.

It would be easier to sell with it properly painted, than with the paint all discoloured or oxidized

You would be wrong. Its human nature to like nice, new shiny things. A car at an auction will do much better fully detailed then if the non major mechanical problems were fixed.

a lot of the honda and toyota whites and blacks are not clear coated, unless it says pearl or metallic in the color. the reason they do not clearcoat it is because clearcoat makes it kind of yellowy, so if properly waxed and cleaned it will be a more pure white or black

The reason for the Single Stage White Paint:

The paint color is a bright white, clear coat does in fact yellow slightly over time. You just can't tell on other colors. This would make the Ultra white paint look yellow.

I am fairly certain that all paint that isn't pearl or a metalic finish are single stage.

Get the sealer and wax out.

Then going to seal it and wax it like crazy!
Anyone know a good sealer to use? Im partial to Maguires products.

My super white 05 has been oxidized on several spot. I think most of it is due to me neglecting the paint. I've just started to waxed the truck this year. And I had the truck for 4 years. I've been using Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction system. It helped out a lot. Op, your truck is too new for this to be happening.

thanks for all of the reply's. I have always bought Ford trucks, had a f-150 for 10 years, red. Never a paint problem, last one was a F-250 had it for 3 years, it was white no problems.

But I wanted a mid size and really liked the tacoma, I hate that this is happening. My point about not wanting it to be painted is when I try to sell it people are going to be put off thinking it has been wrecked. Because I doubt the warrenty repair paint job at the dealer is going to be much better then a maaco job?

Maybe I just sell it and go back to ford.
