My head unit is showing it's age with the display no longer working as well as the volume knob on the head unit. The volume works from the steering column. I've read that this is a common problem. I tried using some contact cleaner on the volume shaft but no joy.

So now I'm looking at getting another head unit and the amount of information is dizzying. Trying to sort through it is a daunting task.

I have several questions but first, here are my needs:

    1. Needs to be plug & play.
    2. Head unit must not extend past the rest of the dash. I have a Teck Dek that my Iphone mount and Ultra gauge mount to and I don't want one to interfere with the other.
    3. Can't require the equivalent of a 30 year mortgage.

I came across the Dasaita Android13 and it seems to check 2 of the 3 boxes. It's really more than I was hoping to spend. Are there units that check all 3 boxes?

    Questions:
    1. My back up camera displays in the rear view mirror. Does that remain the same or is there some provision to have it display in the head unit?

    2. Music...... I currently use a thumb drive to listen to music. Does this remain the same or must I transfer my music to the head unit? (This is the dead giveaway that I'm completely illiterate when it comes to current audio equipment)

Any info will be greatly appreciated. I've been searching for many hours and still don't feel confident about making an informed choice. Below is what my current head unit looks like.

3.what is "too much money"? specifically. it's different for everyone. are we talking a max of $10,000, goal of no more than $5,000, or a max of $100, goal of no more than a used cheeseburger?

?1. the backup camera should stay in the mirror, unless you go through extra modification to relocate the feed to the radio. my personal preference is to leave it in the mirror. it allows for non-touch screen radios, which can be cheaper. but i have issues with big blinding touch screens in cars that lack physical buttons, so i'm generally in the minority in the world anymore.

?2. this is going to be somewhat radio specific for a different reason. the majority of radios do not have internal storage, and will have a USB port for doing what you're already doing. but the specific part is that many different brands of radio's are going to be looking for different file/folder structure, and/or file types. so while most radio's will be capable of doing things the way you're already used to doing them, there's the after-sale risk that you might need to re-do your flash drive to comply with the new radio's expectations, and it might mean you're loosing some audio files it no longer recognizes.

the only way to know is to read into the manuals before buying(assuming a manual is even available) about accepted file types, and expected folder structure

I have a Dasaita unit in my truck. There is also a whole thread about Joying and Desaita, which are practically identical brands. I had some install issues with my '13 truck and the desaita unit, maybe they fixed it now?

I describe these units as "enthusiast' units because they dont have the fit and finish of the big name brand units. There are software oddities. they can crash. Overall though I really like mine.

The install was very very easy. just connect the new connectors to the old connectors you have behind the dash.

Thank you so much!!!! That is precisely the information I needed! I was hoping to spend <$300 but the unit I mentioned is twice that although it does include everything needed as far as I can tell. Other units are priced as an individual unit and the installation components are an extra which appear can be pricey.

I'm glad that the backup camera would remain in the mirror. My past experience with our 2015 Sport, the screen gets washed out in direct sunlight and is basically worthless in the bright sun.

Edit* After doing more reading, the Joying HU looks to be a contender.
