My 12 Baja needs new rear shocks. One of them is leaking, boot torn and there is some occasional clunk. Also the stock springs suck. The truck is barely level empty, put a shopping bag in it and it sags ;)

I'd like to stay with Baja suspension, I understand the rears are 5160 Billies with custom valving. May spring for OEM replacements just because.

Now, I pretty much ruled out add-a-leaf, and would like to go with new springs. I run the truck mostly empty, though I may add a plate rear bumper at some point.

Sounds like Dakars are a safe bet. Is the (new) standard Dakar set right choice for me? Will 5160 handle the lift okay?

I searched and found some indication I should be okay, but would appreciate more info. I am bit of a noob when it comes to truck suspensions.

I am pretty sure, some place like Downsouth Motorsports, will revalve items bought or sent to them..
Your best bet, IMO, is talk to Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road, tell her what you want to do with your truck.

Yeah, thanks for the tip. In meantime I indeed noticed that HeadStrong offers Dakars with a Bilstein kit that includes "revised" 5160. The claim is they have additional 0.5" of travel which maybe makes them ok with Dakars.

I guess I'll be going in that direction vs OEM Baja shocks that presumably have less travel.
