Took my truck in yesterday for the TSB

So far so good, I ran it low and filled with 87 octane before taking it in...

25 miles in and no ping yet (even with the ac on)

Truck seems to have better response and runs like it did on 92....

I do feel like the "Tick" is much louder and seems like its more annoying....

I'm going to monitor mpg's but I don't drive it much so it may be a while

They added some more emissions stuff in 2012, so the firmware is different. That might affect the tuning as well. Keep your fingers crossed, but don't hold your breath. Not sure if this falls under the standard or drivetrain warranty.

I had my 2012 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 2WD/4D/SB/V6 flashed with T-SB-0044-14. Verdict is: much improved reduction in pinging/knocking, no discernible decrease in MPG, and (it seems) improved transmission shifting. Flash was done as a warranty repair at no charge.

Hello, there is a TSB for pinging that just came out in July. Not sure if that's what your issue is but thought I would mention it. It seems like it helps some people.

The dealership is doing my ECM reflash for the spark knock.
I'll post up if it helps.

How do they determine if the pinging is excessive? Did you suffer and mpg or power loss??

You should not have any audible pinging. Mine was very loud.
    No power loss.
    I never check my MPG.

How long did it take for dealers to perform this? Looks like I'm going to make an appt. As mine is pinging all the time now on even 93 and ac on or off makes no difference.

    :(...

so I am part of this club now lol

I notice my 2014 with 33k miles.. making a knocking/ticking sound at neutral when it warms up. I see some saying thats normal.

But now, I notice at low rpms a knocking sound when accelerating :(
same as this video, I am not the author of this video, I found it here on this thread.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KXX6xWul7c

sounds the same as mine , what should i do to fix that?
I already went through some post in this thread, and found that i should try 91 octane instead of 87, and iridium plugs, clean maf, or some king of toyota bulletin about flashing computer or somthing like that..

    please help:(

also, I am not sure if this relates to the problem, but the dealer was doing my oil changes, but I now do it myself. I started putting mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic. can changing to full synthetic cause that problem?

    thanks !:(

I just had the T-SB-0044-14 performed by the dealer and the noise is gone! No fee and took a few hours along with the recall they fixed.

When I switched back to regular gasoline, slight engine knocking returned. Going in tomorrow for this TSB.
