Something tells me that the cost of screwing with your gears would be equivalent of about 5 years worth of your fuel savings. Fact of the matter is, 2nd Gen tacos are about as aerodynamic as a shopping mall. Gearing won't fix that. Wind resistance is an exponential function of a vehicles speed. The only thing that will get you the economy you need is driving 60-65 mph. Leave for work 5 min earlier ;)

Those trucks DO get what they claim, but never in what you'd call "real world" scenarios. The conditions have to be absolutely perfect. Typically driven at 60mph without speed adjustments and never stopping on flat terrain, and completely unloaded on half a tank of gas.

I'm seeing such varying responses all of the internet. What is your terrain?

It is a 2013 double cab, OR 4x4, 4.0 V6 with the 6 speed MT. 28k miles. Great condition. What would you pay for it?

I can't think of anything worse than buyers remorse after spending $ 25K on a vehicle, where MPG is a purchase criteria priority, and knowing that you will be lucky to meet your expectations in the Tacoma you are considering. If you search TW (thousands of threads), you will find, very few Tacoma owners consistently get 20MPG combined driving.

Well I'm hoping for 20mpg on the highway, not necessarily combined. I was just wanting something that did decent on highway mpg.

My stock AC 4x4 MT got 21-22 highway we e-10 gas "yes it makes a difference" then I added 265/75r16 tires with a heavy front bumper and it went down to about 19-20. Now I'm on 235/85r16 with a 2.5" lift and get about 17 highway.

My truck is a 2007 and I'm really wondering if something might be hurting my engines power now tho. Sometimes I'll get 14 mpg on flat 60 mph highway and other times I'll get 20mpg..

I have the exact truck. Less miles even. Stock, other than nfab steps and tonneau. It's cold, the fuel blend sucks. I am getting 14.7ish. Come summer when the fuel blend is better. I expect around 17. I drive a mix of city/highway.

I could live with those numbers. I'm starting to think the potential fuel mileage of this vehicle is a roll of the dice...

14 is ridiculous for a midsize. Surely something is wrong.

Geez 14.7....it's really that low? As much as I want a taco hearing those numbers make me reconsider a full size.

What is e10 gas? I have never heard of it. I would be super happy with 20 mpg average highway mileage but I have heard such a variety of answers thus far. It seems like a roll of the dice.

Most gas has 10% ethonal in it. And the ethonal hurts yor milleage if you can find a pump the sells non-e gas you can expect 1-2 mpg better. Currently I get 16-17 mpg with my lifted truck. But If I use zero ethonal has I will get 17.5-19 mpg.
