Hey guys, I hope you all can answer this question.

Yesterday while getting on the highway my truck seemed to hesitate a bit before shifting. I put a little more on the pedal and it felt like it wouldn’t shift. It finally did, but this makes the second time in a week that it’s kind of hesitated. It hasn’t done it today but I did notice my cruise control doesn’t work. The light won’t even come on. I can live without cruise control but I am worried my transmission may be going out.

My truck has 265K on it and I rarely ever put it over 2k rpms, I’d like to say I baby it. It’s got service records a mile long and was a one owner before I got it. It’s a good truck but it’s definitely not a spring chicken.

I think it could be 3 things: transmission failure, bad speed sensor, or spiral cable (horn doesn’t work).

Do you guys have any idea? Let me know if there’s more info I can provide. Thanks.

Update: I checked the codes: P0441, P2442, P0441. None of them transmission or cruise control related as far as I can tell.

Is the truck up to normal temperature when this happens?

Also, I can’t find a P2442 code. Are you sure that was the code?
The 441 is an EVAP code. It shouldn’t cause your problem.

I would suspect a bad spiral cable since the horn doesn’t work as well.
I also don’t think this would cause a transmission issue either.

    Yes
On our trucks if the CEL is on, it automatically disables the cruise control so your CC problem and transmission shifting issue are not directly related.

As far as the trans goes, when’s the last time you’ve had it serviced? Aka drain and fill, filter replacement, etc? Or even the last time you checked the trans fluid level?

Yes, the truck is running at normal temperature.

I also looked up the code earlier and found this:https://www.yourmechanic.com/articl...e P2442 code means, travel back into the pump.

I took it in for an oil change at a local dealership last week. They said all the fluid was good, but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I could go check the fluid level real quick.

Man, shows how much I know. Apparently it's a sealed system and there's no dipstick. My truck is in the driveway so it's not level, I won't be able to check it.

P2442 is for the bank 2 secondary air switching valve being stuck open.
That code will cause the truck to go into limp mode with forced limited throttle/RPM.

My manual doesn’t show that code?
Maybe it’s because it’s for 2005-2008? Which didn’t have SAIS.

Yea it's not in the 05-11 manuals, I can post the OEM flow chart when I get home but most likely the valve is bad.

On my 2014, the transmission sometimes gets "cranky" about giving a down-shift (hesitates) and if you insist and give the pedal a little more aggressive push, it goes overboard and sends you a message with a roaring, two-step down-shift drama. I blame it on my own 90% grandpaw-style driving. I believe the trans has intelligence, and "learns" and adjusts to your driving style; so quick gentle upshifts through the numbers, take it's time shifting down when you're just put-putting along. When you send it mixed messages it takes some time to go back to aggressive. The shift characteristics definitely adjust to the more aggressive side in mixed stop and go when everyone is trying to cut in or cut you off or when I drive in the mountains. Longer holds before upshift and quicker response to pedal input on downshifts.

The checks for P2442 mostly involve using a scan tool to command the valve and pump but most of the time when the secondary air valve codes set it's the valves.

The P0441 is for incorrect purge flow, the Purge VSV would be the first thing to check there.
No vacuum should be present at the port with the engine running and the electrical connector unplugged (be aware you may set a P0443 with the valve unplugged), when the valve is commanded on there should be vacuum at the port.

Have you tried rapidly pressing the cruise control button? That works for me, just keep trying until eventually the light comes on. Haven't looked at my trans for 80k miles but I'm planning a flush soon.
