    Hi all,

This week I'll be picking up my Tacoma.

The truck is a '13 Pyrite Mica, Access Cab, 4x4, 2.7L, 5 speed manual with SR5 package. It is Certified Toyota with 34k miles. I'm trading in my '06 Dodge Dakota. The Tacoma is an upgrade in just about every way, save for ~50hp/50tq power deficit. I'm OK with that given that the Tacoma is a stickshift and I can rev for power when needed. The truck will be used primarily for commuting but I do often make trips for lumber, gravel, dirt, etc.

A few times a year I haul wood pellets. My Dakota had a payload rating of around 1600lbs. I believe the Tacoma to be less, but in all my Googling I cannot find the ACTUAL payload rating for my specific combo as mentioned above. Can someone enlighten me? A peak under the Tacoma revealed not too beefy looking leaf springs. What about add-a-leaf add-ons? Ruin the ride at all? I'm considering getting a small trailer for this purpose. I do believe the tow rating is 3500 but I'd like to know the payload rating.

Another question, how much weight can the tailgate hold? That is one of the few other areas where the old Dodge seems to be more sturdy. I've had over 500lbs on the tailgate of the Dodge but the Tacoma tailgate feels so much lighter to swing closed and is about half as thick as the Dodge. The supporting cables don't seem as beefy either, and if I recall correctly it only had 1 cable on the drivers side. What about the bolted on anchors in the bed? I'm used to far larger cleats - any issues with the anchors giving way?

All in all, I'm excited over the Tacoma. Coming from my bare bones Dodge, the Tacoma is packed with tech, rides so much better, looks better and is much more fun to drive.

Looking forward to many years with it. Sorry, no pics yet as I won't take possession for a few more days.

I believe our 4 cylinders Max payload is around 1320lbs but I'm sure 1600 would be fine every once and a while!!!

    Welcome btw!!

Thanks, 1320 was one of the figures I found in my research, but other places said ~870, which seemed on the low side. I still may consider a small trailer, it'd make life a little easier unloading the bags of pellets and I wouldn't have to worry about overloading the truck.

Said good bye to my Dakota last night and brought the Tacoma home! Very happy with it, still learning the touchscreen radio.

Noticed on my drive home that my heel kept sliding around on the floor while I worked the pedals. Found that this truck doesn't have floor mats. I left a voicemail at the dealer to see if maybe it had them and they forgot to put them back in. But for the moment, lets assume they don't. Any recommendations here? Are the weathertech mats really worth the price? Hard to justify $100+ on a few pieces of rubber. Have to figure something out, I really don't like the "slick" feeling floor carpeting without a mat in place. What about plain old cloth ones?
