Looking to see if anyone has done this swap, and / or knows for certain what to expect. My truck is a 2013 DCSB O/R with the base touch screen stereo....no JBL, no entune, no nav.

I found a 2013 JBL / entune / nav head unit. Here's what I think I can expect when I try to swap them out, but need confirmation before pulling the trigger:

    • Entune apps will not work, since I can't register for entune with my VIN. If this is the case, I don't really care.
    • Bluetooth should remain as-is
    • Backup camera should still display in my mirror as it does now
    • I'll need to buy an antenna for the nav to work. These are all over e-bay for $20...no big deal
Here are the questions I have no idea on:

    • Does the head unit from a JBL truck have an internal amp? Or do they not work without the JBL amp? Not sure if the JBL amp is solely to power the sub or if it powers the door speakers as well.
    • Does the nav work separately from the entune apps? Meaning if I can't register entune, does that have any impact on the nav?
    • How is the map data stored for these nav units? Do I need to make sure I get a flash card or a disc with the unit?
Thanks in advance for any info

DCLB Black 4WD Illumination dial from 4runner, Flyzeyes LED. Hardwire GPS and Valentine1 with BlendMount mirror mount, TRD shift knob, tube steps, swapped out for signal lamp mirrors. Garmin Eco-Route HD for Bluetooth ODBII Diagnostics, 2014 Entune Plus w Navigation, Leer 100XL dome light wired to dome circuit, pop&lock tailgate and cap locks.
I swapped for a unit out of a 2014 - came with Navigation and entune - into my non-JBL 2013. I'd keep an eye out for one of these. One member was selling for $450.

Everything plugs right in. Bluetooth, aux/usb, steering wheel controls work with no mods. It came with a Toyota GPS antenna. I believe this is the standard antenna for a Lexus or Camry. In these cars the GPS antenna mounts behind the radio in the dashboard, which is where I stuck it. 2013-> Tacomas mount both the GPS and sat antenna in the shark fin. Navigation unit works fine, no problems. Backup camera works through mirror, though I swapped it to radio display while I was doing this mod.

Only thing I lost was Voice Recognition - mind you, it works (I went through the voice training option on the menu). It is just that Non-jbl trucks don't have the VC button on steering wheel, though there is no wiring difference. I just need to find the controls with the VC button off a salvage.

Oh, and entune, it is nice. I like the Pandora/Iheart radio options. You need VIN from a Toyota vehicle that has the Entune "premium". Go through the salvage sites on the web, you'll find one eventuallly, especially if they have close up pictures of dash.

I know this is not the answer you are looking for, but it is a far easier solution. I have a thread on this on the forum, I'll find link and post.

Also I have the wiring diagrams for most of this from TIS. I spent the $15 for a two day subscription and reviewed all the wiring schematics to be sure everything matched. That would be the way I would go for what you are trying to do. The diagram will give you the connectors you need, where they go and what pins to use. You could then make your own connectors to splice into, or just pop the right wires out of your trucks existing connectors into the ones that fit the 2013 jbl/navi radio. Unfortunately, I did not download any wiring diagrams for the 2013 JBL/navi radio, or I would forward that information on to you. Actually I think I did look at the 2013 JBL schematic. It may have had an internal amp, because I thought only the rear speakers were fed through the JBL amp. I believer there was wiring information for all the speakers to be wired directly, though you would need connectors as I mentioned above.

Thanks for the info - very much appreciated.

So the 2014 head unit you used was from a truck without the JBL package? Do you know if it's any different with the JBL?
