So Ive tried the American International kit (crap) and the Scosche kit and cant seem to find one that fits well into the 2013 dash. The Scosche kit is really close to being perfect but something about the brackets doesnt let the face sit back far enough to click into place and stay back.

Anyone have any experience with this? My Element was way easier to install into. I'll post pics up later when I get a chance.

Ignore the wires on bottom, not finished bypassing the DVD parking brake and rehooking up the USB/AUX input.

Unfortunately, the problems you are describing are pretty much what's to be expected with a lot of aftermarket radio installation kits. Even with my '07, I had to modify the kit by grinding/sanding down plastic on the back side and finagling the brackets to get the proper fit. From what it looks like in your picture, and based off of your description, it looks like you want the radio to sit back a little further. You could try to drill new mounting holes in the brackets to sink the radio further into the dash.

Radio depth is ok, its the actual bezel thats not sitting all the way back and clipping into the dash. I'll take a better picture tomorrow of it to show what Im talking about.

I think you mean the little black plastic bezel that sits around the face of the head unit and fills in the space on the edges between the dash kit and the head unit.
I had the same thing with my pioneer X5500 and the scosche kit, but the top clips in and its not noticeable so Im not worried about it.

The Metra kit was perfect for me with my Pioneer AppRadio3. It was even pre-painted with the nice metal flake that the OEM one has. It was a very nice touch, rather than the standard black plastic look.

I ordered the Metra kit just to compare and see how it fits. Main reason I liked the Scosche kit over the Metra was that it came with metal brackets vs the plastic ones in the Metra.

The Metra definitely wins in the looks department when buttoned up though. The matte plastic just doesnt blend with the shiny radio and shiny all around it. I'll post up comparison pics of all three kits when the Metra comes in tomorrow.

Wierd, my scosche kit came with plastic brackets.
I just reused my OEM brackets.

I researched for a while about this and found a ton of mixed opinions. I first bought the Metra for my Pioneer AVH-X5500, and it didn't fit worth a damn. I had to dremel here and dremel there and it just didn't fit. I got tired of the way it looked, so I bought the scosche kit and was impressed as hell. Better in every aspect. It fit perfectly with no fuss or hassle. The metra has the gloss "factory" finish going for it, but besides that, I hated it. I'm fine with the matte finish, and honestly, there is more of the matte black plastic in the truck than the gloss.

Thats funny I tried doing that but the stock brackets had the radio sitting out to far and the bezel wouldnt get near the clip holes.

And yeah my scosche kit had metal side brackets thats why I went with that kit.

The bezel wont clip in on both sides so I just did the top and it fits snug enough that I dont worry. Better than using those sorry excuses of plastic as brackets lol

Finally got the Metra kit in yesterday. I definitely like the look of the kit better, but like the other two kits, it still didnt fit correctly. The radio is too big for the hole they cut for it. I had to dremel the sides to get it to slip in like it should have to begin with. After I did that it clipped in the holes just like stock and you cant see it, but they need to go back to the drawing board and measure again.

$59 for it though. But I guess if its the only kit you have to buy then you're probably ok. I just with it had fit my dash ok. Deeper radios dont work well with it.

So did the metra fit better? I'm getting the pioneer avh5500.
Price doesn't matter if it fits and works man.

The metra fit better than the scosche did. If you have a radio w/o much depth the scosche will probably fit fine and have metal brackets to boot. My Pioneer was too deep for it or something.

Does anyone have the part number for the Metra kit? I have a 2009 Taco Dual Cab PreRunner and looking to replace the HU finally with possibly the Kenwood DDX471HD (or similar) and I'm looking for the most factory look possible, no crappy looking spaces. I'm fine with adjusting the fit with a dremmel tool if needed, that's easy stuff if I can make it look as if it could have been a factory option.

Also it is a bit off topic but for those of you who have installed an HU with a touch screen display, I'm curious how the sun affects visibility of the screen and if that also determined your in-dash kit choice.

    Thanks,
    Joe
