Again oil has been changed 2000 miles ago. My truck is completely stock. It's never been offroad, abused etc.

Update the first week I owned the truck I noticed at start up blue smoke. I called the service dept and the manager told me it was normal. " It was part of the break in period" It sounded weird to me but I went with it. I wonder if this could be related?

I listened to mine with S/C rattle. Your sound is not normal blue smoke at start up is not normal. You might get black smoke at start up if you rev it before the engine gets warm. But blue smoke at start up is usually valves leaking. I would take it in and if they do not want to fix it call Toyota corporate.

Simple valve chatter typical of engines with solid bucket lifters. My engine with about 19,000 miles at the time, still sounds the same today (recorded with GoPro2 mounted on frame):

Tdcoly. I've read your other posts on TN. What do you suggest I do? It's scheduled to be seen by the service dept at 8:45am Monday.

Tdcoly does my truck sound yours when you noticed it?

Not my truck. Read Hotrod's whole thread.

He is probably going to get a new engine.

Service just came in to listen to the video since he isn't hearing anything wrong. I asked if he noticed the miss and vibration. He said all tacoma's have that vibration. I said its new there shouldn't be any vibrations. " well no but they do"

Service tech also mentioned on my slip that he noticed an aftermarket oil filter. Yep it's called Mobil 1 I changed my own oil.

On my way home I stopped by Auto Zone and bought Seafoam and put premium gas I in incase there was water in the line or something.

I assume youre taking it to University? They took better care of my 2003 than Ourisman in Fairfax where I bought it. I hope they do right to you

I have no experience with the fairmont dealership.

Updates, they claimed the noise was normal. The tech said his made the same noise until he lifted it. Idiot. So I left it as that and if it blows up at least it's documented.

Today (cold start) I had blue smoke roll out. BTW the first week I own the truck (new) I had blue smoke roll out and called the same service dept and they told me it's part of the break period to have blue smoke. I call BS.

So I'm dropping the truck off and the dealer where I bought it so Monday morning they can cold start it.

on mine it has always been cylinder 5 and cylinder 6 that has the tacoma ticks. i never saw the note in the maint. manual about the valve adjustment, not sure if mine even mentions it, i am going to check right now. but you can bet i am calling in the morning about it!

as far as trying to nail down the noises, a old skool backyard trick that does work, is get a 3/4" or so pipe about 4' long and then get a 2 liter coke bottle and cut in half and tape the end that that the screw top does on to the pipe (a funnel or anything like that works to) and carefully point the other end of the pipe along the block and covers and listen with your ear pressed against the coke bottle. i know its 'redneck' but it does help at least narrow down the area to trouble shoot and/or make the techs at the dealership look at.

    cheers,
    disco
