As the title states, I am having continuous issues with my stock premium system. Here is the laundry list of whacked-out things it's done:

-restarts in the middle of songs through bluetooth mode (as if truck with turned off and back on)
-touchscreen is frozen and head unit does not respond to hard buttons
-touchscreen is responsive however when buttons on the screen are pressed nothing happens
-head unit will pause a song or streamed podcast while it's playing and will refuse to play unleass I turn the truck off and restart it (I press play then it pauses back on it's own)
-head unit will do the same as above but when I press play it plays but does not produce sound

I have replaced the original head unit a little over a year ago through my warranty with the dealership and all the above is what the new one has done as well. It does seem to happen the most with bluetooth and I would also like to note that it does it both with android and iOS platforms.

Now an even bigger issue. During the time when the head unit was not responding to touch, I ended up pressing the screen so hard it shattered it. I took it to the dealership and they had to contact Toyota who then said because I cracked the screen the warranty is voided and I have to pay for an entire new unit ($3300) but the dealership offered to split the cost 50/50. I will concede that I was angry at the time of cracking the screen however I did not do anything that would "void the warranty" and even still the frustration wouldn't be there if the unit worked properly. I do have a video of the unit malfunctioning that proves it's defective.

    So, my questions are:

-Has anyone else had any of these issues and if so, did you find a fix?
-Is there a way to replace just the screen and if so, how?
-Do I have a case to dispute the cost of a new unit with Toyota?

Thanks in advance for any and all help you guys provide!

3300.00 you could put an aftermarket sound system that would be a 1,000,000 times better than that OEM crap. Even at half the 3300.00 you could do better

Oh I agree. What I'm trying to do is figure out if I can either A. fix it or B. Get the dealership to fix it for free. My only qualms with aftermarket units are how blatantly obvious it is that it was not made specifically for whatever vehicle you put it in. The best looks are the fabricated trim kits for tablets.

Any physical damage to the radio voids the warranty. A warranty radio is a repaired exchange unit. The core needs to be damage free for credit. As far as I know, the only way to get repair parts for the factory head unit is from the radio manufacturers... Fujitsu, Panasonic, etc...

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. Currently, the dealership is battling with Toyota to get me a brand new unit. Toyota wants them to take my radio out and see what the cost would be to repair the cracked screen. The dealership said hell no we're not going to have a customer go 6 weeks without a radio in his truck just for them to see if it's cost effective to fix the screen. Not only that, the radio is still going to do what it did that got it cracked in the first place. I'm just waiting on a final response. Worst case scenario they give me a refurbished unit. But me having video of it malfunctioning makes them think I have a strong case for a swap under warranty. That and the documentation of getting the first one's software updated and eventually replaced.

The unit still works as it always has. The screen is the only part that has any damage.

Unfortunately the screen is part of the radio. I've dealt with this before at work and each time warranty replacement was denied. Maybe you will have better luck.
