So as I was drying off my truck yesterday I noticed spots where the paint is flaking off down to the primer .... I have an appointment at the dealership for this Saturday .

I just traded a 2011 for a 2014 because of paint issues on white. Mine looked like rust coming through. They wanted to paint 3 doors and hood...I traded it in.

The dealer body shop manager, said he has seen it before in white. Hard to see but I saw it when I was drying it. The toyota rep found another spot when he looked at it.

The only issue with the paint on my super white is the fact that it is paper thin. Wish Toyota used better quality / thicker paint.

That's crazy. Only thing I've noticed on my 1.5 month old truck was what looked like a rust speckle on the driver's side rear fender flare. Noticed the flare is not metal, so can't be rust. Living in Colorado I don't think it's any sort of pollen in the winter. I was waxing it so figured I'll wait til it gets warmer before getting more aggressive with it. I guess it could have been from where it was assembled, though.

Thats the worst spot right on the hood, i found other spots starting to form that are similar but a tad smaller on the front fenders, cab and front doors.

Its gonna suck to have my new truck stuck in the shop over a paint issue... :annoyed:

On a side note, water based paint will always suck.

Does suck to have any issues with a new truck. I did notice all the spots on three doors, were the same height. Right below the door handle, about 4" around.

Bring this thread back from the dead!

After a few months and numorous phone calls to Ventura Toyota they finally decided to fix the paint. There was damage on the hood, roof and front fenders. The manager determined that it was from an "outside" source and basically told me it was my fault but they would fix it under "goodwill"
I was also told that bird poop is as corrosive as battery acid and damages toyota's paint within minutes. Jokingly I said, " I imagine alot of cars come back with paint damage then since birds are always pooping on cars" the manager told me that this was true but they were only fixing mine because of the problems i had getting them to call me back.

I was told i would get a ride home and my truck would be done within a week, i politely stated that i would need a loaner to get to work. After talking with the manager again they decided they would give me one ( a 2014 corolla s, and its actually really nice... no power though) After i received the loaner, the time it was gonna take to paint my truck shorten to "2-3 business days"

    Thought that was kinda odd.

Over all i am glad they are fixing it, im annoyed by the amount of effort required by myself just to get a response from toyota, but i guess everyone is just trying to pinch pennies these days.

apparently the 5 year unlimited mileage paint warranty has a bunch of fine print that states if they THINK rain, sleet, snow, hail, poop, eggs, bologna, or anything that comes in contact with the outside of the truck its not covered.

Are they going to use good ole solvent based paint this time, or enviro-douche water based paint again?

Isn't paint part of the 3 year bumper to bumper and rust through corrosion protection is 5 year ?

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
There are many factors involved that would deny a paint warranty. Also understand that warranties have "limits". If you have bird droppings, bug damage, and don't wash these things off it will etch the finish. The longer it stays on the finish the worse it will be. This is no fault of Toyota and no fault of the type of finish. The solution is carry a quick detail spray to remove contamination as soon as you can.

With these new computerized paint systems, the finish is applied as thin as possible- they have it down to a science and I'm sure it saves lots of money since paint is really expensive...

Though I don't have flaking or large patches, I have noticed little spots of rust about the size of the metallic flakes in my paint. Extremely small, I thought it was just specs of sand at first. Its only on my doors. none on my chrome nerf bars or bumper.

Use Iron-X or Iron-out to get rid of it, then clay bar
