Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. My 2013 (purchased June 2013) had a dead battery this morning. Granted, I have 27k miles on it already, but still...

It was covered by the dealer, and they put in a new battery (I tried to pay the difference for a red top...) Anyone else have batteries with "bad cell" as the dealer explained it?

A few years back I installed a new Interstate battery in my car, and it died in less than two weeks. Of course it died on a Saturday morning on a three day holiday weekend, so I had to purchase a new one to use the car that weekend. Though I got a full refund on the other battery, so no problem.

Maybe it was dropped? These thinks don't like to be clunked around; can mess up the internals. Good deal to get a new interstate (they service battery stock at my dealer) under warranty!!

Because there is an occasional bad new battery, it is always smart to test a new battery before you leave the dealer or battery store. It only take a few minutes and can save you a lot of grief. A new battery should produce the 100% of rated CCA specification. If not, replace it with one that does. A used battery should produce at least 80% of the rated CCA specification to be considered good.

Just curious; where does the 80 percent number come from? There was another on this forum who had a 710 cca battery that tested at 592 at 3 years, and the dealer consensus... it was no good. Under 80%, a conclusion of no-good is below 570.....
