I think you're right about markets being a little different. I was told that in MA deliveries to dealers had slowed down and had become unpredictable resulting in fewer new Tacomas available. The crazy thing that I noticed is that the values just don't go down that much when comparing new to trucks that are ~2 years old with 15-20K miles. The slow decline in value drove me to select a new vs. used.

I believe that USAA buying service is using "True Car" pricing now ...

In some areas (and some guys on here) ... have even beaten a "True Car" price ... :D

I used TrueCar on my previous two vehicle purchases (two years ago) - a Ram 1500 and a 4runner. I beat the TrueCar price on the Ram by 2k. I couldn't beat the True Car price on the 4Runner.

Tx Ed is packaged and retrofitted by a privately owned middleman - the Gulfstates distributor. It carries an MSRP of $2995.

Tx Ed does not include any factory options. I may be missing something... I think it includes 18" Ultra brand non OEM wheels, black painted tube steps, 3 chromed Texas star exterior badging and custom stitched Texas star logos on the floormats.

SR5 offers the most bang for the buck. Either TRD package offers mid-level bang/buck and the Tx Ed probably offers the least bang/buck. Tx Ed can be added to trucks with convenience pack or SR5 pack I think.

Tx ed is soft in the market - the lots of full of them so apparently buyers preferred non-Tx Ed versions. If you're waiting for better end of year pricing in Texas - you'll be fine as long as you are OK with a Tx Ed. There's a $1k incentive for Tx Eds.

Personally I think the wheels are attractive. But compared to $3k, 16" TRD OR wheels can be added for only $400 MSRP (the $400 factory wheel option may be blocked in a Gulf and/or Southeastern regions(?)).

Similar to many consumers - I've gotten the feeling that dealers are not overjoyed dealing with Gulf States middleman distributor themselves. Gulf States wikipedia article reads like someone from Gulf States marketing wrote it.

The full size trucks have longstanding traditions of offering unique Texas marketed packaging. GM/Ford/Ram tend to be much more thoughtful, thorough and value oriented than Gulf States in this regard building such packages more around popular value priced factory options (think SR5).

Personally I'm thinking a reasonable target for a Tx Ed over the otherwise same truck w/o, to be no more than $800-ish premium.

SUGGESTION: Please - NO more 'Out the Door' prices!

I suggest SubTotal pricing to include base price + options and $845 destination fee.

That's a price we can ALL compare. Apples to Apples.

TT&L varies from location to location, sometimes considerably (and some of you are lucky enough to not have sales tax). Most of us have no idea where you live or what your sales tax rates and other local fees.

Finally pulled the trigger and bought one today (middle Tennessee).

2013 4x4 Double Cab Short Bed (White)

    Base MSRP: $27,685
    TRD Sport Package: $3,685
    Tow Package: $650
Floor Mats / Door Sill Protector: $195
    Delivery/Processing: $845
    Extra Value Package Discount: -$485

    Total MSRP: $32,575

    Purchase Price: $30,900 + tax/title/reg

Best True Car price in my area for the same vehicle was $30,886. However, that dealership only offered me $22,000 for my trade (KBB trade value was $27k in good condition).

I checked with alot of dealers and this was the best price I could find. I felt like if I REALLY haggled hard I could have got it slightly lower, but this dealership also gave me $500 more than KBB trade value ($27,500). They were also nice and treated me well, so I'd rather give them my business than keep looking for another two weeks and going through the headache. In the end, I didn't care if they gave me more for my trade or took less for their truck - I got the final number that I wanted.

I talked to somebody else on here who also used wyatt johnson. They really liked their experience there. I talked to them a few weeks ago but they didn't have what I was looking for. Congrats on the new truck. Hopefully I'll have one before too long.

I just used USAA a little over a week ago and they are using "True Car". I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I purchased mine for $200 less than True Car. I would have used the True Car/USAA, but they wouldn't quote or deal with the two closest dealers to me. I was able to work out a purchase price for the exact color, options, etc.; and a trade-in price for my vehicle (pending visual verification of condition) prior to showing up at the dealership. I paid 30,400 for a 2013 (only one month old) DCSB, TRD Off Road, MGM, and all weather mats. They gave me KBB trade-in value for my Jeep, which was the going listed price for used in similar condition on craigslist. Having everything pre-negotiated saved a lot of time a fuel between dealerships. It also made it easy to leverage one dealer against the local dealer I wanted to buy from.

Sounds like a great deal, I was hesitating to negotiate my trade in value online or over the phone because I was figuring that they would play games with the condition (fair vs. good) and I would be back to the drawing board. Sounds like they did not give you any trouble. Thanks for the info.

$31,000 (they stickered it $3490) for my 2013 TRD OR DC. Used True Car and the "but I'm a college kid" gripe. Plus got 6000 for my trade.

Working with dealers, trying to get a DCSB 4x4 TRD-OR for $29,000-29,500, or SR5 for $28k.

Been offered a DCSB 4x4 SR5 for $29.9. Told em I'd consider that price if it were TRD-OR, but won't pay $29.9 for SR5.

Also trying to trade my 2011 AC Prerunner with 55k miles. Carmax has offered $18k, so I'd like to push for $19-19.5k at dealer. Already got lowballed by dealership (Offered 13k, lol)

Been on the phone with a bunch of "internet sales reps", just waiting for calls back. I'm in no rush. Think I could get the deal I want if I wait it out?

Me again. Got an emailed "Your price" offer of $31,013 for DCSB 4x4, TRD-OR, Towing pkg, plus "Premium Security System". How much does this up the MSRP, & what exactly is it? I can't find any specifics.

Also can I opt out of the "premium floor mats" before the sale to save some cash?

Figure I can push the price down to $30,000 + TTL. $29,000 might be pushing it. Thoughts? I'm in DFW metroplex by the way.

not sure on the security system. Without it I was targeting $30k on that truck. It might be tough to take off floor mats because they are already in the price. My biggest issue in Texas was the vehicle shield package. At almost $400 it was a deal killer for me. I finally found one without and a dealer that understood my position on it.

$29,000 is not pushing it. As it gets closer to the 14's arriving, moving the 13's will make them a motivated seller. For instance I got mine for $29,200 - $500 military discount for $28,700. It can be done, make them work for your business.

Intuitively that might make sense but unfortunately I've found it not be be the case. My suspicion was that prices seem pretty high in TX. Glancing thru this thread was not exactly helpful since many people don't list basic configs like 2x4 vs 4x4 or only provide 'out the door' pricing. Nevertheless, I'm seeing some very good pricing in non-TX states.

So I 'experimented' with some zips from CA, AZ, NM, CO and IN on Truecar. A real eye-opener. True car target prices were all cheaper elsewhere - ranging from slightly less to over $1500 less (IN) with exact same config. It's likely affected by Gulf States private distributorship and probably neighboring states are no better.

I can't say for sure but TX may very well be one of the highest or most expensive places for a Taco. Southeast may not fare much if any better.

Texas Editions (basically a wheel package) will be soft in the market if that's your thing. MSRP for the wheels is 2995 and a current -$1k incentive. They will be cutting those at the dealer level if they haven't already.

Since I have a trip out of state (IN) this fall anyway - am toying with driving back instead of flying...

Q: Anybody know how it works if you buy a new vehicle out of state and bring it back? Title? Sales tax for example?
