Has anyone had any problems with the radio display going in and out. The radio will continue to play but the display will randomly go off and on for a few seconds at a time.

    mine does it.
I read somewhere on here that it is a problem with all Toyota radios. Happens in the trucks, vans, camrys etc.
Not every one just random ones throughout each line.

Edit: also heard that if you get it replaced it doesnt mean the problem will go away, sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt. so i decided just to keep mine and turn it back on when it shuts off

I've had my Tacoma for 13 months and I have never had this issue. This is the first that I have heard the issue being on this site for the past 2 years. I don't think it's a common problem.

I've had the black screen happen with mine just once (JBL Entune with Nav). But what I noticed is I was trying to do too many different things with it while it was booting up. If I let it go through the boot up process it works just fine. I've noticed that it will not FF or Rev with the steering wheel control on a USB until I give it a few seconds to start. I've just got into the habit of letting the map load before I start making any adjustments with it. No issues at all since I've been doing that.

I have had my truck for 16 months but just started happening a few weeks ago. I have looked online for anyone else having the same problem but have not found anything. I was trying to get any info I can before calling the dealership.

You're just going to have wait until others chime in about it. I am sure that there is a guru here that can help you out with this not so common issue.

    Hi OP,
2012 Tacoma with the factory radio and the same exact problem. The display will go off but yet the radio will keep playing. The buttons on the radio don't do anything at all during this time but the steering wheel controls still work. It has only happened a few times and the dealership said I need to bring it by while it is screwing up so they can diagnose. Unfortunately it is so sporadic that I'm not sure it will ever be able to be duplicated. Did you find a solution for your radio issue?

    This.

Mine has done it I think twice since I bought it new.

My wife's '12 Highlander (since she bought it new) has done it too. We both haven't had that happen for a long while now... kinda strange.

After I posted the problem never came back so I'm not sure what caused it.

My '13 has never done it, my problem is the Bluetooth audio player. Sometimes it links automatically, even if I'm in the driveway and my phone is in the living room. Other times it doesn't link unless I manually got to Pandora on the phone and start it again. I had a Corolla as a loaner, that link issue drove me nuts! It was way worse them my Tacoma. Both worked well once they were linked.

It may sound petty, but with Pandora unless you pay for Pandora1, you only get 40 hours of listening per month before it locks you out. You don't want the player logged in and playing when you aren't using it or you will burn up your 40 hours. Because there is no APP for Sirius for my new Nokia Windows phone, I may end up paying for Pandora1 anyway. I stream Pandora in my office and in my Tacoma thru Bluetooth, I have an XM receiver in my car. My XM is portable and I can put it in my Tacoma but only do so for a long trip. Most times Pandora is better anyway.

My 12 does it all the time. I noticed it goes out over bumps. So outta frustration I hit it one day. And low and behold it came back on. So now I just give it a firm tap. Mine can do it ten times a day. Then sometimes it will go days without issue. It's a lose connection internally. The radio never loses power and continues to work. Just don't change the channel. LOL it's on my list when I get my next oil change at the stealer.

My '13 does it anytime the temperature is above 90°F outside. It starts out black and start to flicker slower until I run the A/C and the truck interior cools off.

This is already my second radio in less than a year.

Sounds to me like the same issues that Delco had years ago with the Cadillac radios.. bad solder connections. I have fixed literally 100's of Delco radios over the years, I used to do it on the side. I've been hearing of more and more of these issues being reported.

My 14 started doing this yesterday, did it once normal driving and then once when on a washboard road making me agree with the solder connection or wiring inside.

I experienced a random "reboot" on my 14 (purchased in January this year). I wasn't sure what was happening at the time, I had just started the truck and it went through the typical startup screen, I pressed the "continue" prompt on the warning and it shut down and started over again. Haven't had any issues since and haven't noticed anything when driving over bumps....odd.

My problem with my 2011 is the volume control. When turning up the volume, it goes all over the place. Can't seem to get the volume right.

Like I have posted In other radio threads.
    All common issues.
It's common enough I don't question the issue.
Anything to do with freeze up, blank screen, inop buttons or dials.
    I just order a radio.
I'm on my second radio myself.
Having to prove a issue like this shouldn't need to happen IMO.
