There is already another group going out ahead of us that day. 3 groups on that trail the same day will be nuts. I can't really stop you if you decide that's what you're doing but I'd humbly ask if you could look for another day.

 

really you can run any trail you want with your groups.

idea of splitting these trails up is to not have large groups on the same trail at the same time. BLM limits without permits are a main driving force behind this.

Ha ha well that settles it. Looks like I am doing it lol and I would have done it anyway. Lol I want ever planning on doing the rock on moonlight until I had some armor but hey I did it lol me pussy come on when have I ever pussed out on something beside my marriage but that was warranted

 

It was hard not to go every weekend when we only lived 4 hours away lol

I might take you up on that, but I have heard that fins is essential for a first trip. Maybe if behind the rocks happened in the morning and if I can get both done before the raffle... Not sure if that is possible

 

Ill also have rocky (90's 4R with 3.4 swap on 35's) and Mathew (90's PU SAS'd on 36's)

 

Is that what installed your fear of not returning to the Rim?

 

fins is what we are doing for a night run,it's similar to hells. I would do behind the rocks over fins personally.

No lol. It was a combination of things within a short amount of time.

Long story short, our brake master cylinder went bad and we didn't discover this until we lost brakes and went flying off/down the z turn backwards hauling ass towards the cliff. I don't know how we didn't roll or blow out a shock or something. Then the other vehicle with us overheated at the top, then we rolled/flopped at the bottom of the sand dune. The other people we were with abandoned us so we only had one vehicle to help roll us back over in the most awkward spot. He then proceeded to kill his alternator and broke a birf trying to get us back over. By the time we got it back on it's wheels it was completely dark and wouldn't start so we decided to leave it overnight and we limped off the trail in the other truck (with the broken birf) with only a mini flashlight. We didn't get off the trail till midnight. lol

Then we had to spend the next day driving to GJ for parts and then fix everything/rescue the truck.

It's rare for us to have any issues (knock on wood) but that day...a black cloud was following us for sure.

Mind you, this all happened the afternoon we got into town and decided to run it real quick in a few hours.

Luckily it wasn't a busy week at the time (and also bad because we would of had more help) but if it was during EJS or something, we would have slept with the truck on the trail.

So we're avoiding that trail for a while LOL

 

raffle is friday...but BTR is a long trail if you do the whole thing, so it would be the trail for the day, unless you do a night run

but as a first trip to moab, IMO a slickrock trail like fins or hells is a must do

if you want to get in on a hells trip, it has more to offer than a fins and will get you a great slickrock experience

luckily BTR does have slickrock throughout the trail, so if you go BTR, you will see slickrock

 

too many good options! Maybe I will try to get in on a hells run and try for fins at night if it happens on a night when I am there.

 

LOL. I'd hate to be camping in one of the campsites near the Fins trailhead. For those that don't know the trail entrance is right in the middle of a campground of 4-5 campsites. It would suck to have 15-20 truck roll through the middle of your camp at night to run the trail.

Same here, didnt stop me last year. I like a challenge haha! Besides, it makes me feel good when I can do the same obstacle as a better rig.
