I haven't totally dialed it in. Considering I couldn't get it off of 10 I would say it is definitely better.

Haha, yup that is MUCH better!

Not critiquing, just trying to be helpful.

Also, great call on the relocate of the trailer plug, Moab ledges love to rip those off. Did you just cut a hole and move it, or did the wires need extending?

I appreciate it. I have my own SWR meter now so I will check it out later and dial it in a little bit.

    It was really easy.
    1) Removed the old bracket
    2) Unplugged the harness
    3) I drilled a 2" hole
4)Trimmed all the plastic around the plug
    5) Used a big hose clamp to keep it from getting pulled out.
    6) Siliconed the shit out of it
    7) Pluged in the harness
    8) Taped and ziptied the wires in the back.
    9) Drank beer and posted pictures on here.

Alright, enough lurking. Count me in. I need to get away from the snow...

I'm still kind of figuring out what trails I would like to do, and am a little unsure when exactly I'll be able to make it out. But I do have a question for those of you more knowledgeable than myself.

I am interested in doing the White Rim trail. How doable is it in one day? Also what's the deal with the fee's/reservations they talk about at the national park's website? Is that only for the designated campgrounds or what?

Otherwise here's what I'm looking at:
    arrive Wednesday afternoon/evning
    Thursday: White Rim
    Friday: Elephant Hill
    Sat: Fins n Things
    Sun: ??

It also depends on where you tested it the first time. In town or in a wide open space? That can also change the SWR readings. I had some long conversations with a radio guy that has been doing this for 50+ years. The SWR reading under 2 are more acceptable then they used to be. The fear of blowing up a radio also has long since passed since transistors are not in use in the newer radios. The silicone is much more forgiving of the heat.
Who's that messing up the shot of a nice rear end? :D

True true and true :) I just was saying to try and get 1 and 40 to match lol

Good to know that the radios are more forgiving now.

OH I agree with you no doubt, just passing along what I learned recently. It sucks when this guy finally retires or passes away his shop will close for sure. It's a lost art CB's are. :)
