Do you guys feel the MTR will be better behaved on road compared to other mudders, with less of a MPG hit and good wet pavement traction?

I think that is the KM2's domain. They are pretty quiet and don't seem to hit the MPG's at all. At least mine didn't seem to and I stepped up from factory sized A/T's to 33" KM2's. Not sure about wet pavement traction compared to other tires, but the KM2's aren't supposed to do to well on ice, but really what tires do? I haven't hard any trouble with my KM2's on ice so far.

I almost added in "non-studded" but decided that should be a given;) haha. In fact more specifically an M/T tire over an A/T since most snow tires are more of an A/T anyway. haha

    Completely agree.

Seems like there are mixed reports on how the KM2s do on ice. Personally, they were terrible on ice and 4wd didn't help. Might depend a lot on the specific conditions, tire pressure, tire width.... I dunno.

Sounds to me like they are still priced as ridiculously as they were years ago when I had them. Not worth it to me when there are other cheaper options out there that are as good or better.

I think the MTR is going to have better wet traction that the KM2 because of the added siping. Same goes for ice. I had my KM2s siped when I purchased them and it helped a lot last winter. Without added siping the KM2 really suffer on ice particularly.

The MTR is a pretty heavy tire so I think it will probably have a more negative affect on mpg than the KM2.

My qestion is how often do you guys end up on ice?? i mean ratting a tire on something its gonna be one for a few days out of the year. Heavier MTR you say, do you know by how much?? I don't know what other sizes are like but in a 35/12.50/15 the KM2 tread with is 9.4" and the MTR is at 10.5" girth matters to me just as much as it does to my wife.. MTR FTW

    Comparing the 35x12.5x15, the KM2 is 61lbs and the MT/R is 67.

Didn't say the weight was going to keep me from getting them. Someone asked about the effects on mpg and weight will effect it. Minimal increase or not its going to matter to some people. Not so much to me.

    Particularly true with rotational weight.

I think width hit mpgs more then anything. I lost 2 or more mpgs going from a 31x10.5 to a 33x12.5. Both sets were km2s. I lost 1 or so,e on average from the 31" km2s vs my old wranglers.

And ice and hard pack slick snow is what we get up here. Km2s do horrible with it. I haven't siped mine though.

Width adds weight and wind drag. Plus a wider tire holds more air, which will increases rotational mass as well.

You also gained 2" in height with that tire in addition to the width. That's a big jump in weight. rolling resistence is definitely a factor with wider tires.

Oh yea. Height defiantly still affects it. I just think stepping up t a wider wheel affects it more.. Like Brady went with a 255/85. So really didn't gain any width, maybe even lost width, and just most height. So he saw little change in mpgs.

Lost width:cool: Just a little shy of half an inch though. KM2's have a skinny tread pattern too though. 10" wide tire with a 7" wide tread pattern. That's why Ben's and my tires look so much skinnier than other peoples tires even though by the numbers we are only talking an inch to two.

Like when I was parked by Brant the other day. His tires (KO A/T's) look way wider than mine but are only really about 1.5" wider. It's just that the KO's tread width is pretty much as wide as the full tire width.

Intersting thing while reading up on the two tires there were a few complaints of the KM2 having a problem of being out of round. nothing like that for the MTR so still on the MTR FTW

I think if im gonna buy a 12.50 tire and im gonna pay the price on the road for it i want the damn tread to be as close to 12.50 as it can be and the MTR is winning this battle..
