If its a good deal on skids get them and just take your bumper off before you hit the trails tires would be a close second though

I agree, my rear quarters and hitch have gotten a work out from all the ledges in Moab. That said, skids are on my to do list over a bumper, cause I don't really care if my bumper gets (more) beat up.

I do have a hitch, and it will probably have a shackle there. I'm thinking $680 for skids front to back (minus gas tank) is pretty good. I might have to call addicted offroading tomorrow to see what they would charge me for the same. Adam has been cool though, so I wouldn't mind giving him my business.

Thanks guys for the input. I like your reasoning. I typically go pretty slow when i wheel because while I trust my truck I also can't afford to break stuff due to not driving carefully. I feel like if I am better protected, I will be able to enjoy the ride and not hold back a group by going slow. I will still be able to get tires with tax money and a cb at some point.

Travis, i say if your getting a good deal, take it. i wouldnt put anything in the hitch til u need it.... id just plan on dragging the hitch. it works perfect for a guard against steep departure angles. truck shit is expensive man, if u can get a deal, jump on it.

Get a HC rear bumper. Your 2nd gen ass hangs way to low as it is haha

    Then tire then skids

    Then winch.

I can get all my skids for less than a bumper but the deal ends tomorrow. I think I have to take this. Besides I want to do a pretty delux bumper with a swing out and Jerry can mounts. I don't want to skimp on it.

I can get you 4'X4'X 3/16" for about $50 (give or take). Just throwing it out there for consideration.

I would, but its the bending required that I don't have the tools to do.

Do it the back hard way..draw a line..grind the line out to about half way through the plate or less. Or whenever you can bend it with a crescent wrench. Then weld where you bent.

Pretty much how I did mine..

Used a plasma cutter and cut on my bend line, except left 1/2" of uncut steel approximately 12" apart. Then bent to desired angle and welded.

Grinder method will work too, just seems a little imprecise, they like to bite also..

But then again it's a skid. It's whole purpose is to get bashed by rocks, not designing a rocket ship.

Get a big protractor for finding angles on your IFS skid: saved me lots of time.

Ooooo like the plasma idea. I have a friend I can borrow one from. That'll be much nicer.

Wow I am really having a hard time deciding what to do. I have about $700 to spend and I was set on skids until it was suggested to make my own. Now I'm thinking HC rear bumper or just getting some guard dogs. But I'm sure the ATO skids would be beefier than if I made some, but I have to pay to get my exhaust re routed (more clearance though!). No idea. But if I want skids the sale price expires today.

Aaaaaaggggghhhh. Good problem to have, money that I don't know what to do with, but still a problem cuz I don't have money all the time.
