I bought a 2013 Taco recently and I am trying to decide what its made of. Is it composite? Is it a coating on steel?
It also seems to be super slick when wet, if I put a motorcycle in the bed do I need to put the wheels in chocks?
    Whadya think?

It's a composite, technically "sheet moulded composite" or SMC, attached to metal supports. The resin that was used to make the composite is most likely polyester so it's going to be slick...and stay slick. I have a 2012 and I have contemplated having the bottom sprayed with bedliner...or painting it with a non-slip resin (the kind with grit in it) like they use on floors that are commonly wet. I would bet they make something for boats that would work too.

You can buy wheels chocks that attach/mount to you bed for towing motorcycles. I've used them in the past and they are well worth the money.

I talked to a truck accessories dealer about it. He said they have had no success in getting a bedliner to stick to it...
There are getting to be more and more things about this truck I am not liking...

White, debadged, Mudflaps removed, ICON 2.5 in front, 2.0 in rear, all 4 corners have reservoirs, Spidertrax wheel spacers all around, BAMF bolt on sliders, Avid lightbar, oem transmission cooler converted to power steering cooler, aftermarket transmission cooler eliminating all oem transmission cooler stuff, remote mounted spin on transmission fluid filter TrueTrac rear differential, rear diff housing vented and filtered into left side bed box, URD MAF calibrator, Volant intake scoop into oem airbox, second filter removed, airbox internals smoothed, blended and polished throttle body, NST intake manifold spacer, Wet Okolee set covers, WeatherTech Digital Fit mats, inexpensive JVC single DIN, Scangage, AVS Stepshield door sill protectors, Doug Thorley Long Tube Headers, URD Y pipe with O2 sims.
When I drilled the bed floor for bicycle mounts, you could tell it is polyester from the smell of the drilled material. SMC is actually a very nice way to make the bed. While not perfect it does have advantages.

If you are carrying a motorcycle, the bed is the least of your worries. Spend the money and beef up the tailgate. They are only rated for around 200 pounds and will bend in the middle.

Also, when you buy the tailgate plate, the same company makes tie down mounts for the bed rail corners worthy of tie downs.

dealership is honestly the best place to go. i thought the OME bed mats were built well, I love mine, they say Tacoma on them and fit perfect. Don't overpay, the mats cost around $85 for the dealer. some dealerships jack up the price, but you can argue it and they should sell it to you for what they paid for it.

Good that you did your research The bed material is really heavy duty. You don't really need a spray on liner. Just a mat

The composite bed is one of the things I really like about the Taco. No need for a liner. :notsure:

Im pretty sure the weak tailgate issue is fixed or can haul more then 200lbs...my 13' tailgate weights more then one of my coworkers 06' tailgate does.

No bedliner required, but a mat is a better solution? Haha! You guys are real diehards!! we'll see how much I like the bed In a year or so. Until then, I guess I'll get a mat or wheel chocks.
Okay, I've inquired about the tailgate in other threads. No real information gleaned from them. With two sport bikes in the truck, there's going to be about 400 pounds on the tailgate. Do you think that is too much without reinforcing?

Would love to find out about if they corrected this and our trucks are void of this issue.

The tailgates are reinforced from the '09 and up , not sure about the '08's

There was a weak tailgate TSB for the older trucks
