My dads cousin rebuilds Toyota', mainly tacoma's, and has a 2013 double cab TRD 4x4 with 22,000 miles. I'm going to go over it today and see what the repairs are but most of the time its fender/bumper/hood or combination of these.

I looked at some used Tacoma's on lots the other day and they had a nice 2010 with 113,000 miles but still wanted $20,000.

My relative, 2nd cousin above, wants $22,000 for his. I currently have a 2005 regular cab 2wd that he rebuilt and it was done very well. I have owned others he has done also and have had no issues. Is $22,000 a good price for this 2013 considering it has a rebuilt title?

    Thanks

    Jeff

If the guy knows what he's doing, it could be a good deal. If he doesn't, it could be a nightmare down the road. It comes down to that more than the vehicle's make/model.

$20k for that 2010 sounds about right. My 2011 with 96k still books for something like $23k dealer price.

Dealer used prices are inflated beyond belief.
If you are looking for a used Tacoma I would find one here or private party.
The guides are just that, guides. A truck is only worth what someone will pay for it.
I cannot say I would pay $22k for a Tacoma that was rebuilt and I've owned a few
It is something that will follow the vehicle throughout its lifetime.
I think I would be hard pressed to get $22k for my 2013 TRD OR DCSB.

My 2013 TRD Sport 4x4 is a salvaged title. Had an accident on the driver's side. Bought it in 2014 when the truck was 8 months old (according to the build date). Was at 3,500 miles. Has Nav, sat radio, JBL and everything else I wanted from a brand new truck. I bought it for $25,000. I thought that was a steal considering I priced a brand new one with similar options at around $35,000.
Haven't had any serious issues *knock on wood* besides a leaky steering rack that was changed out at the dealer under warranty.

It's your dad's cousin that did the repairs, so you know who worked on it. Plus if he rebuilds Taco's regularly, I'm sure he knows what he's doing. See if he'll go down a little bit on the price and I'd say go for it.

Also consider that some insurance companies and/or banks/credit unions will not insure or finance rebuilt titled vehicles. If that does not apply to your situation, great. Something to research.

Well he is your cousin right, ask him specifically what he "rebuilt" then come back to us. The truck got a salvage title for some fender hood stuff, doubt it?

Any body shop worth its salt can make a wreck look good. Its the issues you will have down the road with a bent frame, misc electrical issues, shit like that. What did he fix?

Seems like an alright price. Carmax offered to buy my 2012 4x4 SR5 for 22k but I have 80k miles. But a clean title. The thing that drops the value the most is the rebuilt title. Otherwise that vehicle is worth 25-26k easy in CA. It actually has lower mileage than whats normal..

Some good points being made here. You seem like someone that goes through vehicles so come time to sell this truck you are going to hit a wall and wont get close to what you think.

Individuals that buy salvaged trucks take a great risk therefore they buy them cheap. I wouldn't pay 22K for a knicked titled truck unless I very well knew that I would be holding onto it till the wheels fell off. If you are dead set on buying it, I would talk your cousin down.

Actually no, I don't go through vehicles. The others I have bought from him were for my kids. I sold my Dodge Ram 4x4 about 10 or so years ago when gas prices skyrocketed and bought an 04 Corolla from him, gave that to my son and bought the 05 Tacoma repo'ed from the bank that he had rebuilt. I have always wanted a 4x4 Tacoma and will probably keep this one for a good long time. I have also bought an 05 Corolla for my other son from a friend that he had bought from my cousin.

may I ask how it's a salvage title and that's all he had to do to it? Insurance companies don't total newer vehicles that can be repaired like you mentioned very often. Seems like there might have been much more serious damage to have a low mileage Taco totaled. Just asking

IDK, but I've discussed it with him several times over the last 8-10 years. I've seen the trucks/cars he's gotten straight off the trucks and they don't look bad, like I said, fender/bumper/grill/sometimes hood and airbag or two.. I've asked him the same thing and he seems to think its the air bags that causes most totals. That and insurance company markups. I've personally bought a fender for one of my Corolla's and it was just $60. I wonder what body shops charge for the same fender? IDK.

I'm curious about this as well, when I was looking for a used Tacoma to buy I saw countless newer model Tacomas for sale with salvage titles that were apparently only involved in "minor" accidents, they all looked clean too. I've always wondered why some cars/trucks get slapped with a salvage title so easily, but maybe there's more to it than meets the eye.

I was seriously considering one of then for awhile but here in Cali, insurance prices are bad enough let alone trying to find a company that'll insure a salvage title for cheap.
