I am looking at a couple of 2013 tacomas. There is some rust on the welds in the front. Is this normal? Is it likely to be a problem?20180912_160054.jpg

Toyota treated my 2010 frame with some great anti rust chit for free. It’s a really waxy tar type stuff. Should keep me rust free for a long time! Maybe that truck can be treated before it gets worse.

Nope..all salt. It gets a good wash down every time I leave the beach and through out the winter. Fluid film and paint touch ups as often as can be. I can post some pics if you want but I don’t have them on my iPad I don’t think.

Is it worthwhile to scrape, sand and paint areas of the frame that look like that?

If it’s surface rust, yes. If it’s actual rust it’ll come right through.

Dang that’s awesome. I do the same, except for Fluid Film on my 2013 and I have some rust. Not as bad as OP. I live in a heavy salted area in the winter. I do a good wash down every time it’s not under 20 degrees, unfortunately it’s damn cold in the winter where I live.

I was about to plop down for a 2013 w. 30k miles that was like new until I looked underneath. So much rust and corrosion, even behind the wheels, almost every bolt, around the bottom of the engine, frame welds, etc. NOped out, but since then I've realized it's a common issue with Tacomas.... How much rust would you guys find acceptable if buying used?

So i bought the truck. I'll sand/ wire brush the welds and do some kind of treatment like por15.
