    Hey fellas,

I am wondering if there is a way to tell if your key is chipped or not. From what I have found it may be depending on an option when the vehicle was originally purchased but I am not 100% sure. If anyone has some insight this would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Look for the dot on the key near the base. If you have a dot you have a chip:D

Also I believe this sticker on drivers window means you would have a chip as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a letter "G" there but no dot. I do have a small black on the plastic part of the key but I assume that is where they connect the two pieces together.

How about on your window? I see yours is a '13. They may have changed the ID code since my '06 was built. :notsure:

Not sure if its indicative but there is also a red icon that flashes on the clock module as well. It looks like a car with a key inside it if remember right.

    5100's all around. Front's set at 1.75" 265/75/16 Duratracs.
My key is just like yours, never really thought about it though. What does your key being chipped do for you?

If you try to start your truck with a key that is cut right but no chip it will not start.

Thanks guys. I am only curious because I finally am getting around to ordering a new Keyport blade and didn't know if I would need the security chip as well. If you have never heard of Keyport, you should look into them.

Anyone know of a cheap source to get extra keys? A hundred bucks from the dealer seems a bit harsh.

I remember when you could get a new key cut for .79 at Ace Hardware, and stash it in a magentic box under your truck.

That dot doesn't really mean anything...

If your key is rubber and somewhat fat it has a chip...and the car blinking Is the immobilizer indication that it's on,
When you put your chipped key into the ignition without turning the key it will turn off

I do too. Then someone figure out they could add a chip and make 95.00....bastards!

some hardware stores key making kiosk can make keys for any chipped setup, just ask. making car keys is one of those things allowable to licensed locksmiths, they have access to aftermarket stuff that works (sometimes)
