I noticed some water pooling up in my oil filter holder/mount in the engine bay today (V6). Along with it some corrosion down in there, plus some of the components below it, alternator pulley bolt, etc. I was really scratching my head over what the source was, but then it rained again and I immediately went out after and popped the hood and it was obvious that the hood scoop leaks! I only really noticed originally because everything else is squeaky clean inside the engine bay (4300 miles).

Anyone have this issue, is it common or a defect on mine?

I've got the same corrosion as in your pic but didn't know what the source was.

I know right? Might give the dealer a call and see what they say....but I generally hate dealing with them. I might be able to make a better seal on my own, but what a hassle.

I didn't really find anything searching for hood scoop leaks, which makes me think the old hood scoop design did not have an issue and it only affects the 2012+.

Imagine the results for people wanting to simply open up the scoop to make it "functional"

I'm stopping by the dealer tomorrow to get an oil filter and drain plug washer... I'll see what the service guys have to say.

Yeah, the only results I came across while searching was those kind of threads...screw that. A lot of the other functional hood scoops I have seen personally are for turbo cars and they are routed/sealed to the intercooler, they don't really go "into" the engine bay.

I think thats normal. My hood scoop leaks onto the engine as does several other friends'... It was never an issue because our engine compartment isn't exactly meant to be sealed air tight.

No leaks noted on my scoop. But I will keep an eye out now.

Just checked this morning after a stormy night, truck has not been driven and is only wet at the oil filter and can see the drip from the scoop. Guessing once some oil gets spilled in the catch that will cure the corrosion.

Same story over here. I think if you drive the truck everyday it won't be a huge issue as it will burn off from the heat of the engine. I was out of town for a few months and the truck was driven infrequently so it had a chance to sit there for much longer.
