If from what I got from this is that you believe the the truck will loose value in which case I would lose money. In which I should be cut a check depending upon what amount I lost which would equal my lose of value making it so there was no lose of value?

In that case yes I agree and the steps to start whats called, "diminished value" or just "DV"

    1. Call a certified appraiser, I called AAG (Auto Appraiser Group Inc) they are a nation while accredited appraisal group. It's going to be $375 for them to drive to where I'm at or I can drive to them for a $275 appraisal.
    2. Once they appraise the truck then I can send that to Geico and say hey look I lost $3000 pay me.
    3. If steps 1 and 2 don't work I'll just keep pressing saying hey I lost money I need reimbursement your client hit me blah blah blah.

I'm from Iowa but I'm in the Military so I'm station in Coronado California. All states award diminished value but Michigan.

Regardless I agree collecting DV is going to be difficult and it's going to take a little time.

Are you going to peruse that option? I'm currently looking for a agent that is qualified to do a dimished value assement in San Diego for a friend that was rear ended in her brand new car

I'm a firm believer that I am not going to stand by and take the hit any more. I won't let myself get taken advantage of any more.

I got hit by some guy with 9 fricking kids in his car I'm am so happy that everyone was alright but my 2013 Tacoma lost some value. If the truck was $32,000 and I drove of the lot and it was $29,000 I'm ok with that because I know I got a great truck. But if now that $29,000 is $25,000 that's not my responsibility to take care of that $4000 is lost value.

Someone will pay me for it.

USAA is top rated. Don't let Geico short sheet you on parts.

If the initial assessment was $6600. That's what your diminished value is. Will show up on carfax and if you ever go to trade it in that's the amount they're going to deduct from you trade in value. Happened to my wife when she hit a deer, went to trade car in a few years later and they deducted the repair amount from the value of the car, it was $3500 repair that in theory came out of my pocket one way or another.

I have spend countless hours doing research on this particular kind of crash that involves the rear part of the frame the crumple zone, that 8" section in the rear. When I looked at it you could tell that the top of the frame was straight but the bottom flat portion was tilted down at a very slight angle maybe 10*. So my question is the frame looks like it has minimal damage, the adjuster quoted 8 hours of frame work, measuring and setup 2.0, pull 3.0, and assembly after pull 3.0. What do you guys thing on that one.

Second question if I do push for a total what do I factor in so I know the math before I fight Geico. When I bought the truck it had TRD wheels with Toyo all contrary on it which was around $1700 just in parts, then it had the TRD super charger. So does that all get factored into the value? A 2013 TRD sport on KBB with premium rims ..... (bullshit option) selected with, roof rack, running boards, bed extender, JBL all the goodies is like 31,000 - 34,000K. There isn't an option for super charger which is another 4k +.

Right now the estimate is at 6,600 and thats the first one so it will go up more when Toyota digs in it. So maybe only $8,000 but if I push for a new frame I could get that to $18,000 because the frame is 10K. Then I could put diminished value and have a appraiser come out and evaluate it down from whats its worth now. Then add in rental car.

I need help on this one guys I'm not sure what to do. If they total it and take my super charger away and cut me a check for like 32,000K i'm screwed i just lost my ass in upgrades. I drove the truck another 400 miles after it was hit and it seemed ok, I had some clunking and squeaking but it was minimal and it was wandering a little on the road but not to bad.

It has to hit a % value close to 75-80% of the value of the vehicle in order for them to total the truck

I'm just worried about the frame right now. The damage to the frame was minor, like I said it was straight on the top lip of the frame but the bottom lip was bent down very slightly. At this point i'm not sure whether I should push for a new frame or I should just let them pull it out.

I've read ever single forum on here talking about getting hit in the rear, and mine is not even close to the rest of them. I've seen guys taco's rear bumper 90* perpendicular to the ground.

They will probably pull it and straighten it out. Insurance companies are pretty tight on paying out.

How is your dimished value process going? I'm going to help my friend tomorrow on starting that process

I will try to push for a new frame I tow alot.

I have to wait till everything is repair then I'm going to call AAG to do an auto appraisal. Realistically if the value dropped from 32,000 to 25,000K and I get a check for 3-4 I'll take it a wipe my hands I paid 33,000 for it. I got the super charger for free anyways ;)

thats a good reason to get a new frame, if they still want to fix the current frame. i would get it in legal writing that the repairs done is still safe to tow to factory rated towing capacity. which i highly doubt they will do so a new frame might be in your future
