More details are going to be needed if you want people to give you advice... Does it try and crank over? Do nothing? New/old battery? Auto/manual?......

Hello topoutman! Sorry about the lack of information.
My Tacoma does kinda make that cracking sound or almost screeching sound (the way I hear it) when I tried to start it. The battery is about 4 yrs. old and it is an automatic. It's very well maintained and it only have around 70,000 km on it

    Hope that helps! Thanks

Have you tried to jump start it yet? If the battery is run down the radio and lights will still work sometimes but not enough power to start it. If it won’t jump start, pull the battery and have it tested if you have a way to get there.

Sounds like a dirty connection or a weak/defective battery.

Clean the terminals and reconnect first. If it still doesn't crank. If you have a Meter read the battery voltage sitting and off it should read solid ~12 VDC. Then while reading the battery have someone else attempt to crank the engine. What does the voltage drop to? If it goes below 10 VDC either the battery id defective or the alternator isn't charging.

Jump start the truck and read the voltage at the battery with the truck running. The voltage should be 13.5 to 14.5 VDC. If so the alternator is working and the issue is most likely the battery.

    Thanks Jimmyh!
Honestly, I have no idea what you are saying here (no offense). I'm clueless when it comes to vehicles! I'm just waiting for my brother to get here to try and jump start my truck. If it doesn't work, then I guess to the shop she goes!

If you get it jump started take it to Autozone, Advance Auto or some other auto parts stores ( call them first ). many will do a load test and alternator test for free.

Please let us know how it comes out.

    Best of luck to you!

Rowena, glad to hear you got this resolved, but, what you said in your post 'My Tacoma does kinda make that cracking sound or almost screeching sound' . . . screeching sound, what vehicle in the world makes a screeching sound when starting it?

    I don’t think they do.
I know when I worked for AutoZone (years ago)
There was a sticker with a “build date”. Usually 2 or 3 digit Alphanumeric code.

    ex. G1 or G21= 6/2021.

There were a few different combinations.
It wasn’t too hard to figure out.

Expiration dates wouldnt have anything too do with it anyway, the battery is either good or bad.

Actually, the garage that handles all my maintenance placed the sticker that said: Expires Jan. 2020. Guess I got another year out of it! :)

At least the problem was simple and easy to fix.

Maybe the sticker was for when the warranty expired?

Either way. You are up and going again

Interesting I've never heard of this, I mean theres a life expectancy on batteries depending on the climate you live in but never heard of putting an expiration date on one.
