I am in Southern California looking at a 2013 Tacoma 4x4. It has 140k miles and going for $20,000k. Too many miles for the price?

    2013-2015 are the best years.
That price sounds about right compared to the market here in Tennessee where I live.

As for the actual "worth" of the truck. That went out the window in about 2020.
It pretty much comes down to who can "afford" to buy it. Not what it's worth.

    Good luck.
The 2013 is a good year.

Post some frame pics, run the vin through the Toyota owners app. Check all the glass 2 see if it’s Toyota glass. Open the gas lid & check that the cap snaps closed. Last brake & oil change? Good service records?

Agree with the above posters, those are the best years; all the kinks worked out.

20K USD is right in line with what I paid for my 2015 double cab 4x4 (frame replaced under enhanced warranty) with 168k KMs back in March. So long as you can check that the frame is good and the Carfax is clean I'd say go for it.

Impossible to help answer your question. Year and mileage are only two of many, many factors that affect price. Depending on trim/options and condition that truck could be worth a lot more or a lot less than $20k.

There's a bunch of aftermarket parts and a replacement (or painted?) rear bumper. I would take a very close look before I considered it, especially over 100k miles. There's no telling what the previous owners did to it.

Agreed. Needs to be thoroughly inspected with all them mods. Personally I wouldn't buy any used car from a non franchise dealer lot.. . .but I'm weird. Also, the 14 and 15 MY is a little better than the 13 because we have the back up camera display on the big screen not dinky mirror

I dropped more than that for a 2013 with 110K in 2023, but it was one owner with service records hitting every 5K, completely stock, Michelin tires (always a good sign), and New Mexico all the way (frame is pristine). Plus the small lot I got it from I’d done business with before (family owned for over 30 years and good reviews. It feels like a new truck everytime I get in it.

The problem I have with modified trucks or cars is you have no way of knowing how well the mods were done, and if new sporty wheels took priority over routine maintenance.

I prefer the mirror camera in my 13 because I can keep my eyes on the mirror, but your mileage may vary, of course.

I will agree. I bought my 2013 from a guy I used to frame houses with. It was a great deal from a friend. Those are always the best deals

I agree with the others, this needs a thorough look over. It presents pretty well in photos and honestly looks like a steal at first glance. But, too many little fishy things for me. Why are the mirrors, door handles and rear bumper black rather than color match? What lift kit is on it and why is the front so high? Grill and headlights probably aren't original. Missing antenna and mud flaps. Why are the original decals/badges missing?

I'm not really a fan of used car dealers, big or small. They typically do a lot more rehab on a car than a private seller so they're going to cover up as much as they can and/or its going to look it's best in the showroom and you'll never make it look nicer. I prefer to buy from a private party where typically what you see is what you get and then YOU can take it home and do your own rehab.

Also, it's been for sale for MONTHS. Which might be a sign there's something wrong. If it didn't have any issues/concerns I would have expected a truck with those specs and price to sell very quickly.

I wouldn't run away from it, but I'd want to do a very deep inspection myself and I'd be looking for evidence of accidents and paint/body work. The frame and engine bay also need a good looking over. I'd also consider getting a PPI done at an independent shop if the dealer will allow it.
