I know you guys have been annoyed with this topic but Im not sure these specifics have been talked about.
So the story goes.... Hard to find a local sr5 but plenty of trd oc's.
Im looking for access cab manual; Future off roader/rock climber or possibly might go the baja route but not likely.
Do I spend the extra money for TRD oc or stick with SR5 and upgrade all the parts?
Im trying to justify the extra money, and EVERY thread I've read regarding the issue DOESN'T DISCUSS MANUAL TRANSMISSION! So which is the best route for off roading with a manual... getting the bells and whistles of TRD or sr5? Do all the traction controls work with 6spd, I've read that there are clear advantages to having these but "if they dont function with manual transmission then what is the point?".... is what i am asking myself.(A-TRAC and such)

piecing it together my future mods will include regardless of TRD or SR5
Full 3" lift and every suspension upgrade I may see fit(gonna go on trd model also)
    33" tires possibly bigger...
ARB lockers(for SR5 only) Possible add in front locker to TRD?
    may change gearing ratios 4.xx
    Full body armor
Rhinoliner paint job(prb 3 yrs down the road)
"bro-dozer" style (cred to Crocodile Tears) :mudding:
It will also be driven about 20 miles a day for work. but plan to keep it as a future off road toy.

Also are these trucks targets for car theft? especially bro-dozers?

Sorry for killing an already dead and beaten taco thread but I would like to decide after hearing input from experienced owners.

The TRD interior is better, I.E the Seats. IMO, get the TRD Off Road and have the Locker from the get go, just some input.
If I ever got another Tacoma, i'd get the Off Road again...

Get the SR5 and mod it with the 3 or so grand you save on the initial purchase. The only thing I miss on my SR5 is the sport/off-road seats, they are nice.

Depends how close in price you're talking. Seats are better but more importantly which gets lost in the sarcasm is the locker. If its cheaper to just add a locker to an SR5 compared to what you can find an OR for than go for the SR5.

Wasn't lost in my sarcasm... ARB is supposedly stronger than the TRD e-locker. I have neither so I cannot comment

Some find the SR5 seats quite comfortable. Some prefer the TRD.

Hence my statement of it depending on how much you like the TRD seats. Because he's planning to replace pretty much everything else

Seats are nice......but i wish I had the OR...........need to get a arb locker here.
I wished I'd gotten a sr5 with all the mods I did. Only thing I really liked in the trd sport was the better interior and it wasn't much more than the sr5 (at the time, not sure now).
Since I replaced wheels/tires, front and back complete suspension, the only real upgrade I would miss if i bought the sr5 at this point would be the seats and interior.
    hope this helps........buy the sr5!:D

Or just get the Off Road, the truck is already pretty capable from the factory.

In a nutshell, get the Off Road, buy A lift tires and maybe down the road an ARB locker in the front.

I have the TRD Sport. I'm kinda wishing I sat on some SR5 seats before opting for the TRD. I probably still would have chosen the TRD, because of the lack of chrome on the outside, but the seat structure is a little tight on my legs. I like the upgraded fabric on them, though.

The OP didn't ask about the capability of a stock TRD or SR5. He wants the mods he listed and opinion on which makes a better base. So it really comes down to how much do you like the seats

you'd probably save yourself some cash down the road by buying the OR now, i wish i had a locker and those seats really are a lot nicer IMO

edit: or get the baja and do minimal mods to it
