As the title suggests, I currently have the ability to purchase a

    2016 DCSB Trd Sport 2wd - 33K

    or a

    2013 DCSB Trd Sport 2wd with 17k miles (Private Party) - 27K

I drove both trucks and I gotta say the 2016 feels sluggish.

For those who have bought 2016's, knowing what you know now, which would you buy?

Are you really going to decide what to buy based on what's said on this forum? Your just going to get a whole lot of bitching. Buy the one you like best and can afford.

That and it's impossible to evaluate the deal without listing the options and prices for both.

I've had a bunch of issues with my 2016. But, I would say roll the dice on a 16 if you absolutely had to buy a truck now. Otherwise, wait until next year or until they have tsbs for the more common issues.

Some people claim to not have the common issues. I personally don't believe most of them due to the large number of 16s I've driven with these problems. But there is a chance you are in this group.

With a 16 you get a full warranty, the new tech, and a better, quieter ride.

Good point, both trucks are practically identical. Both are white, 2wd, short bed.

Only real difference is the model years and mileage, 0 vs 17k.

    2013: 27k
    2016: 33k

Most on this forum with even the smallest complaint about either truck are going to complain like it's the worst truck they have ever owned. Some will say maybe you should go buy a domestic. If you want an opion without having to hash through all the complaining set up a poll.

I'd say go for the 2013 if it's from a reputable dealer and you can get a good used warranty on it... but I may be a bit biased :p

I traded in my 13 Baja 6speed for a 16 limited... Loved my 13 but the 16 is hands down a better ride.

I capped the control arms and no kazoo... That was my only issue on both trucks.

The '13 seems overpriced, considering 5k gets 3 years newer and a few more gadgets.

However, while I'm prejudiced, I'd prefer the '13, especially for another $3-5k less.

Forgetting all the '16 issues that we hear about, I just don't like it's looks or size.

I thought the same thing, but my new 16, not a single problem, grease was in the u joints, bolts torqued and the transmission I don't even notice, I do notice the hesitation off the line, but that's an engine characteristic, so yes there are members without issues.

My $0.02. I never buy the first run of a new vehicle. Let them work the kinks out a bit. The 2013 has really low mileage so you really can not get hurt there.

A buddy of mine is selling his 2011 DCLB 2 x4 with STOOPID low miles, something like 12000. I can put you in touch with him.

Bought my 2016 TRD Sport 2WD May 30th for 30k. I have a little over 700 miles on it and don't regret it one bit. I haven't encountered a lot of the issues people have reported here and have enjoyed this truck more than any vehicle I've ever owned. I'd probably go with the 2016 if you could get the price a little closer for the updated interior alone.

The auto on the 16's make them feel like dogs. It is a smooth unit but the programming is very overly agressive at entering a higher gear. It does the engine a true injustice and makes it feel like the weak link. However it does learn from your driving and will get better with the miles. Over all it will be a quieter more refined ride, the interior is better, your mileage will be marginally better, and little things throughout the truck are updated and more refined. It sits on virtually the same frame and shares much of the same dimensions. It's best to think of an evolution not a revolution. Drive both, decide for yourself if it is worth it.

Depends on how much you care about the power or perceived pep. Other than that, the 3rd gen is better in most every major way.

Get the 16 then you can let the 2nd gens know how much better your truck is.
