Do you need to know, or care?
Or get the '13 and tell everyone on this forum how much of a piece of sh*t their 3rd Gen is.

I had a '13 LTD, '16 is hands down the better truck, no contest IMO.

$6,000 ain't pocket change, if you really feel the trucks are about equal.

For that money you could get a 2015. Seems silly to get a 2013 with that in mind.

    No brainer.

Why roll the dice with a problematic 2016, when you can have a reliable proven 2013?

I bought my 2004 in 2005 with 8k miles. Zero problems in 12 years. But that was a 1st gen.

First gens are bullet proof. The little 3.4 isn't a powerhouse but man do they age well.

I've had 2 Gen 2's and this Gen 3. Hands down the Gen 3 is better. If you feel the need for speed then consider a Dodge Viper or a Vette.

it's like internet reviews on merchandise. 300 might give 4 to 5 stars then there are those 5% ers giving a one star just because they can

Going off good advice and adding a poll to the thread, it may be worth mentioning that the 2013 is a private party vehicle, and I'd have to wait 2 month for the 2016 taco, but I don't mind waiting for the right truck.

I have both and prefer the 2016 in every way except the 2016's engine trans combo while driving with extra weight in the bed (over 400lbs of gear..) in the mountains. The 2013 4.0 auto just handles the mountain roads better in my experiences. Learning to use the S mode on the 2016 is needed if driving in the mountains. Other than that, the 2016 is more fun to drive. Good luck with your decision, either one is a good choice!

Some of the why I think the 2016 is more fun, enjoyable:
    the overall cab layout
the cab is quieter, much less road noise
the dash displays and their adjustable features
the seats feel better on long drives
small things like: the storage bin between the front seats opens from the front instead of the drivers side (easier to access from either seat)
the glove box has separating bins for item storage
sun visors have extenders- a plus for sunny So Cal driving
it just feels more capable on the road, a more solid feel

Sure these are small things, but these are things that add to my overall enjoyment of the truck. Plus I like the looks of the 2016 better. My 2013 is a fine truck, no problems with the vehicle, I just enjoy the 2016 more. If I had to drive mountain roads daily I would stick with the 2013 and the 4.0 because I believe it would be a better fit for that type of driving. For occasional mountain driving while on vacations now and then, I am happy with the 2016. I have had the 2016 in Death Valley, Anza Borrego, Berdoo Canyon/Joshua Tree, the mountain areas of Northern California/Lassen NP and it has performed to my liking. Everyone has different needs and opinions and I doubt there will ever be peace in the "which is the better year..." TacomaWorld.

I'm with some of the previous posters:

Drive both in the same conditions, a couple of times; go home and go back to both trucks a day or two later, and drive them again.

In the meantime; do your financial calculations. Try to find the worth of the 2013, from a couple of used car dealers; they go to the auctions, and see in real time what they are really going for in $$$. Don't put all your trust in NADA and Kelly Blue Book; the auction prices tell the real story.

Assess the condition of the 2013, before you do the financial calculation. Really look at it mechanically, for any abuse or neglect.

The 2016 will be easier, it will have no miles on it.

If you just have to have New; and some people do; you may be stuck there.

Just yesterday I talked to a salesman at a Toyota dealership, and he confided, in that the 2016 drives a lot different than the previous models. Mostly less torque, in the common driving range. That being said, maybe you don't need that, or even care about that.

Make your choice and never look back.
