I see you made your choice already but wanted to offer my opinion. I have a '16 TRD Sport 4x4 dcsb. Mine's a manual tranny so I have less issues. Still have the driveshaft lube and ubolt torque problem but they're easily rectified. I've not driven a 2nd gen Tacoma. Just look at the 2016 though. Sexy looking truck yeah? Good choice.

I thought I should comment on this, because it's a recurring myth which is often taken as a fact. I should have mentioned, I owned a 2005 for about a year, sold it and bought a 2016 because of this very logic. Here's the thing, I ended up having more issues with my 2006 taco then my 2005 taco. So I sold the 2006 and bought a 2005 again.

Toyota put a lot if time and effort into designing the 2016 Taco, it was in the "design process" for over 4 years. Most other manufacturers (Chevy, Ford, etc.) are fixated on releasing a new model vehicle every 3-5 years, and only spend 2-3 years "designing" the vehicle, the rush, IMO, it was causes all the issues with the 1st model releases. I believe Toyota to be the exception to the rule, much like they are the exception to many other rules.

    Just my $0.02. :)

Thanks man, they are great looking trucks. What really sold me was the ride and how quiet it is. The tech package, MPG, and all the extra goodies are really what tipped me in that direction. I can see why people complain about the tranny, I'm not a tech, nor did I design the truck, but it appears to me it was designed to search for the lowest RPM when driving conservatively to maximize MPG's. On the other hand, when driving aggressively, it's "searching" for the highest RPM's to maximize power. It's a win/win in my eyes, Power when you need it, MPG's when you don't.

Yeah I'm a manual guy I wouldn't settle for an automatic. I just like having the control to put it where I need it. It's an extremely good looking truck and I'm perfectly happy with mine. Glad you have a positive outlook for yours as well.

Yea, I got the extended warranty so I'm covered with any issues for 6yrs/100k miles so that give's me piece of mind. Also, toyo is pretty good about taking care of it's customers.

Nice truck. Use the ect and it will not act so stupid always trying to cruise at the lowest rpm.

How does that impact MPG's? I really don't mind it actually?

**SIDE NOTE: Does anyone know the VIN numbers affected by the Tranny low fluid and reprogramming TSB? I bought my truck on a Sunday so the service department was closed and I was unable to have them check the fluid level and programming on my tranny.

Dude I don't like them. LOL. I asked the dealer to take them off so I could save some money. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in purchasing them.

I didn't notice a huge difference on mpg but I also have bigger tires on mine so the computer doesn't show accurate info anyways.

    .
IMO ... The 2013 is too expensive and ... if the 2016 is new, take the 2016 and OEM new truck warranty ... Toyota can fix any problems you have.

    $6k = 3 years difference = $2k per year = $38.50 per week = cheap for 2016 .. given trucks are basically the same ... 2016 for sure.

Some people have had problems with their 2016s' ..... but mine has been an excellent truck with a few small issues ... but I am at only 2,500 miles.
