2014 access cab door speakers

Hey all the following is crutchfields recommendation when i asked for new door speakers and an inline type amp. Can one of you stereo geniuses confirm this will work in my entune access cab?

The speakers are the Kenwood Excelon KFC-XP154C 7” component speaker set<http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113XP184C/Kenwood-Excelon-KFC-XP184C.html?tp=105>. These will take the place of the front door woofers and tweeters. They feature a 7” woofer for clean and controlled low frequencies and a 1” silk dome tweeter with neodymium magnet. This is a perfect push for those Kenwoods and will be an audiophile grade sound.

 

7' inch woofers eh? I can't confirm it, but I feel like I read on here that someone put 7" woofers in their tacoma. Crutchfield IS an expert though. If I were you, I'd trust what they say would fit. If they're wrong, they have amazing customer service and will fix it as fast as they can.

As far as the speakers and amp go, that should be a nice setup. Before you buy them, you might go to a car audio shop in your area and listen to some excelon speakers to make sure you like them.

The speakers alone made a huge difference in sound quality. I just need a little more push. I'm not a "boom boom" enthusiast so the big sub box is definitely out for me.

 

^^. X2 on the focals. I installed some about a month ago and it's a world of difference. My good friend owns a stereo shop and he just redid my radio and door speakers and I was extremely pleased. It's a lot of sound out of 2 6x9s.

 

I'm with you, on the boom boom. SO you put these in without an amp and they made a big difference? My comfort level with working on this kind of stuff wold be to do one thing at a time. maybe i'll follow your path here.. thanks!!!!

 

The difference between the Alpine Power Pack and the Clarion amp units, is that the Clarion unit puts out 5 more watts per channel, but can't be bridged for 2 channel mode. The Alpine unit would serve you better with just the front doors speaker change.

 

Have my Clarion on order. Will install in the next week or so (trip planned). I'll document what I do (with pics). Yes, the Focals made a big difference. You can't tell much by the YouTube video, but they sound much better. I'm sure some of it is the HushMat.

Reason for installing the Clarion is to replace or move the overhead speakers to the back AC doors. Thus needing 4 channels.

 

Check your back doors, I have heard that on the 2014 Access Cab they moved the rear speakers up into the headliner with some crappy computer sized speakers.

 

I know they're in the headliner, that's why I said I'm either going to replace them and/or add speakers to the rear doors.

 

im just going to leave them alone myself, they don't add anything, and good powered speakers in that cab are more than good enough for me.

 

Update:
Going to place my Clarion XC1410 under my drivers seat. By doing so, I'll have easy access to make changes (if needed) in the future. I'll be wiring in (2) 9-wire cables under the center console to the dash area. One will connect via plug under my seat to the input side and the other will attach to the Clarion output plug end making it easier to remove, replace, repair the unit without having to take the radio out. I'll document pictures when my cable comes in. The reason for this is it is miserably difficult to put it in the radio area and have it secure. Because of it's size, it fits neatly up against the heal hump under the seat without losing any rear foot room (if an access cab has that). I'll run my separate bat + wire along the kick panel.

I haven't quite figured out how the "rear" speakers (in the headliner) are connected. Once the amp is hooked up, there is no rear fade. Looking at a 2013 wiring diagram (mine is a 2014 and I don't have a diagram) the headliner speakers are wired to the fronts. Also, the diagram on another post showing Toyota colors are a little off. My 2014 main power and front speaker plug has a gray wire that is the ignition switch on #C (I'm using this to power activate the amp).

I did a test run of the unit and I must say I'm impressed with the output. Running the stock head and the High setting (as suggested by Clarion for stock units) the sound is amazingly better and clear. However, using the Low setting is even better! I'm running Focal ISS690 speakers and there is no distortion from either setting. It'll blast you out of the cab for sure. The bass seems more prevalent at lower volume and also clearer, but, you have to pay attention to what you've recorded and how much bass the music has. Some of mine is a wee bit toooooo much bass and actually sounds crappy with the Low setting. On both tests the crossover switch was left at Flat. I didn't really see too much change from the 60hz and 90hz settings. I wish the Gain control could be remotely controlled to change if needed and that's one of my reasons for under the seat. Probably will not change settings once installed but knowing it's a 10sec job is o.k.

Hey have you ever uncovered those stupid roof speakers? any idea what size they are? they sound like iphone speakers when you fade to them lol

 

Not yet, but when I do the wiring, I'll pull the headliner and find out.

 

Finally got my Clarion XC1410 installed in the truck. What a difference along with my previous speaker upgrade. I have it documented in the attached .pdf file if anyone's interested. I spent about 1.5 days doing the install along with mounting my trailer brake control in the E-brake space for standard transmissions (I have AT).

I also found out that you need to wire the "5th" wire in the rear speaker plug to the radio/harness. If you don't, you don't get the fade feature. I utilized one of the unused male/female connector wires in each of the Metra plugs to make the connection in the rear plug. Now, I do have fade when all hooked up. They sound better so I'm leaving them alone for now.

The radio sounds so much better at low volume now. I can have it around 20 and it sounds great. Yes, it'll blow you out of the cab for sure and all I wanted was clean sound. Also glad I didn't install a powered sub-woofer, there's plenty of bass in the sound.

All the wiring is soldered and used heat shrink. Don't need any problems later on. I also installed plug-ins so I can replace the unit without hacking up the wiring again.

Nice clean job and still have a lot of room under my seat.

 

Did the same up grade. I used BHO 1761 & BHA 1761 to connect my Alpine 445U without cutting the stock harness. Got everything back together only to realize I do not have any radio illumination, only the touch screen is lit. Which wires do I need to hook up? The orange from both its? please

 

Did U use a line converter or just amp and new speakers?

 

Just the mini amp and new speakers. No problems to date. Good clean sound without hiss or other noise. Plays fine with BT and Ipod or USB.

 

How much work to tie the amp to speakers and HU

 

Not sure if you're asking me, but I stayed with the stock HU and you should allow a couple of days to do an anal job. If you want to butcher it, it can be done in less time. I pulled out the center console and driver seat to have ample room to work. The rest of the time is spent routing wiring and making good connections.

 

You'll need an amp that has speaker level inputs if you're going to connect the amp directly to the HU.
