I just ordered a mirror kit from Bob with temp/compass/ and Homelink . Does anybody have install tips for a 2014 Double Cab? Is it necessary to remove the over head console or can the factory wiring harness be accessed otherwise?

I would say remove the overhead console. I was nervous at first but did it today and it was a piece of cake. My harness was taped down right in front of the overhead console and I don't think I would have ever found it without removing the console. One screw to remove in the back sunglasses compartment then pull straight down on the front (nearest the windshield) part of the console and it will pop right out. Pops right back in when done.

Thanx for that Josh. My Tacoma is only a couple days old and was a bit tenative to start ripping things apart. I am anxious though to get the mirror installed. I miss the temp/compass/Homelink I had in my old Truck.

Can anyone share how/what route they ran the temperature sensor wire? Basically how you get from the overhead console area to the firewall. I haven't taken mine apart yet so I dont know if theres an obvious way.

Just got my auto dim/homelink/temp/compass mirror installed. Ok, getting closer to how I want the truck now. Side heated blinker side mirrors next on my list.

    THIS. please? :)

And I may be wrong, but I saw what appears to be a temp sensor near the radiator (kind of in front of it) on my '14. Haven't had a chance to look and trace where it goes, but what other sensor could it be?

If I am not mistaken, there is a temp sensor on every 14, it is for the A/C supposedly and no one has determined a means of utilizing the data from this sensor for anything else.

My aftermarket temp sensor wires run down under the dash and through the boot of the main wire harness and the sensor is mounted out in front of the radiator, near the horns.

I ran mine alongside the wires that are already there that run to the overhead console. Pretty simple to do.

Run them left from the mirror, behind the headliner to the corner where the grab handle is installed. You'll need to remove that, it's easy two bolts and it comes off. Ran the temp wires down that left hand side and taped them to the existing wiring that runs down underneath the dash. Then just run it through the firewall where all the other wiring exits the interior of the vehicle.

I had my Gentex mirror installed and love it! Looks factory. Went with model # 50GENK20A. Mounted the sensor behind the grill by the other factory temp sensor and most importantly it's 100% accurate.:)

Toyota coporate gave me $250 of credit towards parts/accessories purchases at a toyota dealer because of the mirror mix up in my situation. I was happy with their resolution considering they really didn't have to do anything (and most companies would not have). First time toyota buyer and I've been impressed so far with corporate and my dealer.

Same here. They gave me $250.00 towards any future purchases at the dealer also.

I received one of Bob's Mirrors tonight and was able to install in in just a matter of minutes. I purchased one with autodimming and compass only. I wasn't too worried about temp as it is displayed in my hdradio and I have it on my phone as well so I didn't want to mess with running the wire for that. The mirror I order was completely plug and play. It works great and honestly looks better in the truck the mirror that came with it.

I'm very happy with the GENTEX mirror that Bob sent over. Mine does have the temp reading and that sensor and wire was pretty easy to run. Looks great in my Taco.

I too got mine, had it up and running in about 10 minutes. Temperature sensor/wire is tucked in above the console, planning on running that when I get a little extra time.

I just finished running the temperature wiring. Very simple job. Hardest part was getting the two temperature wires through the firewall grommet. I think it has been explained but basically...

    1. remove single phillips screw in sunglass holder of overhead console.
    2. Pull down pretty hard with both hands on the edge of the console near the windshield, it'll pop out.
    3. See wiring harness, plug directly into Gentex harness.
-at this point you now have compass/homelink/auto dim finished.

    4. On driver side pillar handle, pop out the two tabs on each end of handle and remove bolt under each one. I cant remember the size, but also can use a phillips.

    5. Remove plastic trim piece from this pillar, (pretty much falls off after removing bolts from handle.) You'll see other wiring running along this pillar.

    5. Run the 2 blue wires that are attached to harness, above the headliner along the driver side of the windshield. Tuck them up in there cleanly with your fingers.

    6. Keep running the 2 blue temperature wires along the existing wiring as it heads back behind driver side dash.

    7. Look under the steering wheel, up behind the parking brake. You'll see the blue wires up there. Now notice behind the parking brake against the firewall you'll see a large grommet with a bunch of wires going through it.

    8. Figure out a way to push these 2 wires through that area. I ended up stuffing a small piece of stiff plastic tubing through that firewall hole and sort of using it as a conduit for the 2 wires.

    9. Continue to run wiring cleanly near the driver side fender of the engine bay, attaching to 2 blue wires that have temp sensor on other end. I attached the temp sensor somewhat behind the front license plate.

    10. Turn on ignition, and your mirror will now show temperature.

I received my Gentex mirror kit from Bob this afternoon. I ordered the auto dim mirror with Homelink, compass and temperature the same as was in my 2012 Tacoma Double Cab 4X4. The install, using the harness supplied by Bob, was a piece of cake, plug and play with the exception of the two wires for the temp probe (the wires are non polarized, so just a matter of hooking the two wires from the probe to the two wires from the harness). I use non insulated crimp connectors and adhesive lined shrink wrap for the connections , enclosed the wires in the supplied factory looking wire loom, and tie wrapped the harness securely. I ran the wires thru the firewall the same as ard324 (above) and used double layers of thick wall shrink wrap as protectant for the wires.
Bob is the man if you are looking to do this mod with a mirror that has any or all options.
Now I am waiting for my Scanguage and Blendmount kit to arrive and mount the Scanguage over the mirror, routing the wires along the same route as the mirror harness..

I'm another happy customer of Bob's! Installed the mirror with Homelink/compass/temperature display today. Will run the wires for the temp sensor the next time it warms up around here. Thanks to all who have described their experiences with the installation process; makes it mighty simple to accomplish.

Another stupid question from a new to Toyota owner. I'd like to get a mirror with Temp and Compass for my 2014 TRD. "What is Homelink" used for ? Garage door opener? If so I don't have any buttons on my overhead console. Is the Homelink button on the Gentex mirror itself?
