With the XJ shackle and no D29XL you will have very similar ride height and payload capacity compared to the stock length shackle and D29XL. The positives is you will gain a couple of inches of droop with the XJ shackle versus stock length.

To me if I can keep some specs the same but still gain performance, it's a huge plus.

This... I have seen a few people including 1st gens that have had serious payload problems without the respetive add a leaf.

I like the idea of a bit more travel with the XJs but, exactly, I have serious concerns with payload not running the AAL.

6800# on the scales... (Last truck in line) Think payload capacity with that set-up is more than enough.

A properly built suspension requires just enough spring rate to support the vehicle at ride height. The XJ shackle and no AAL does just that IMO without being too stiff.

Either way ATO offers those shackles in any custom length and they are made for our trucks. I would personally go with them over the XJ shackles.

That was a full load of fuel, 2 people, and gear for 11 days on the road.

There's a reason the LT guys are running 12" shackles...

Here's some good reading: A quick leaf spring and shackle search will provide you with more info.

That's some good info. I really just wanted to improve my articulation from stock which I have and maintain a stiff spring rate in the rear to not only support the additional weight but to have good handling qualities. In happy with my setup and am achieving enough articulation to meet the needs of what I do. My rig is mostly for overlanding so anything more than what I currently have would be overkill. This stuff is super interesting though. You can go round and round fine tuning but ultimately I guess you have to figure out what works for you. Good stuff ckeene9

Didnt get any hunting or camping in this weekend but I did get down to Craig County to help my parents out with some things around the house. Perfect weekend for foliage and being outside, working or not.

Oh and also added a new member to the family.

She is a handful to say the least.
