    Hey wise Yota gods,
I have a 2014 dclb with two led pods, one 30in led bar and for some reason I can't get my battery to hold a charge. I started having problems the morning after a took my truck through some foot deep puddles. I was able to turn off my car and back on a total of 3 times before this problem happened. At first, I thought maybe water got into something even though I have water proofed my car to the best of my abilities so I quickly took all my accessory lights off my battery and tried again to no luck. So I charged my battery over night and the following morning it worked all day no problems but now a day later even after cleaning the leads and terminals and charging I can seem to get it to work. Any clues on what to do? Alternator? It's barely a year and a half old :/
Ps if this thread should be placed somewhere else please tell me

    We need more information.

Test the battery for a current drain.
Check the voltage (when running, and when not running).
You may have destroyed your alternator going through muddy water, since it is mounted low (at least mine is).

If you are unable to do these things, then take it to a shop.

Take it in to toyota sounds like your alternator isn't charging the battery like it should I have led bed lights, 2 sets of hood lights, a 55 inch bar on roof, 2 pods, a ham radio, and other shit all on the battery and mine is still fine. I have a 2014 as well

So I called Toyota and cus I have 37000 miles it's not covered and to get my system checked it's $120 which is also a new battery and half way to a better alternator so I'll try out autozone.
This morning my car not running had 10.2 volts. Last night it had 13.45 not running and 14.65 running.
I was told since my car was able to turn off and then turn back on a few times that could mean my alternator is fine?
Is there any way to test the alternator myself?

The water I went through was less than a foot and tho it did cover my car in water it shouldn't have been enough to do this kinda damage since I was able to drive my car another 80 miles after

Sounds like you got junk in the alternator. It is possible to clean it out. If you are a patient man.

What all would I have to do? I've never worked on one before.
Also I was surprised the water went all over since I have my mid and ifs skid I thought it would've blocked some

Not sure. I've never attempted to dismantle a Toyota alternator before. You may possibly even have gotten the internals of it wet, which the only real good way to dry it off is time and a nice hot engine. Get the battery tested just in case, make sure it's not just now starting to fail and if it's not then suspect a wet alternator. This i why I don't go mudding or rain hydroplaning anymore.

if your currently charging at 14.something volts, your alternator is probably ok. auto parts store can test starting/charging systems. probably your battery..

I've seen batteries go bad at any time and for no reason. As others have stated, sounds like it's charging, so alternator's probably good. In any case, get it fixed pronto. A problem in one of the three charging areas ( alternator, battery, regulator ) can take out the other two if you continue to run it.

14.0-14.4 volts are good out of the alternator. If you are at those voltages while running you are good to go from the alternator, if the battery is testing under 9.6 under load you got a bad cell or something.

At this point given that your battery is a year and a half old and the fact that it may have been sitting at the dealer for some time may have given it lot rot. Truthfully, I would suspect the battery well before the alternator. Ours are capable of taking a beating. If it did go bad, chalk it up to just some bad luck. Let us know.

Haha I saw the group buy which is why I asked since Im not sure which of the options is the best! You can attest to The AGM reliability for the price? Figured its time I spend a little more on a better battery, upgrade my alternator, and install an rtmr
