Hey folks, along the way I noticed that someone was having issues with text messages appearing on the entune. I too have an issue and hoping that someone can lead me to nirvana.
I'm a proud owner of my second Taco. the 2014 SR5 came with this fancy entune. My Samsung S3 syncs up no problem and does all the bells and whistles. BUT the text messages do not appear on the head unit. Pairing and re-pairing did not solve the issue. Some folks outside of this forum are blaming 4.3 Samsung updates.
    Any leads out there.
    Thanks folks!

I'm not sure on your phone, bur on my iPhone I needed to change a setting on the phone that allowed for SMS data or something like that.

My Entune w/nav was like that until I upgraded to Android 4.4 from 4.1; after that I could send.

    OK thanks folks,
So I've got a S3 and the 4.4 roll out is not for a while yet.
However, I just chatted with Verizon for about 30 min. And they suggested that I limit the number of messages on my phone since the system and not be able to handle the load. I have to admit that I do (read did) have a LOT of threads going on my phone, so I killed almost all of them. As I write this I'm on my Triumph today so won't be able to try it on the truck till tonight. I'll keep you posted.
What's strange is that if that was the case the system would load what it could and truncate the rest? We'll see. After that I'll have to wait for 4.4.

My S5 works fine but I don't use text a lot and tend to keep old stuff cleared out. I like to free up memory as much as I can.

As an IT guy I don't see much basis for that, though it is possible. The honest truth is it's difficult to program for android and all of it's variants.

So for an extra $680 with the Entune plus you get xm radio capability,HD radio,HD traffic and weather.IMO this is not worth $680?With the SR5 pkg do you have to get the Entune plus?

It's an option per the brochure; only the Limited forces a radio upgrade.....but I'll bet for SR5's and similar it's bundled. Bet you'd have to Special order to keep the base unit.
Update: Just checked internet dealer i work with ALL SR5 and above have the ED option (on the Lot)

    OK team here's the scoop.
    I'm throwing in the towel!
Talked/Chatted with: Verizon, Samsung and Toyota.
The S3 with 4.3 simply will not read back text on the enTune Aduio Plus system.
Believe me, I've gone thru every permutation imaginable with them with the phone. pair/re-pair, clearing cache, defaulting, speech to text variants, hands free. No one has been successful in fixing this.
It's a nice to have but not critical. Will wait for 4.4.......even then it's iffy.
    cheers

Hankk, I'm in the same boat as you with a 2014 taco with Entune audio plus & a samsung galaxy S3. All seemed to work but having the radio be able to read out my text messages. This is due to (previous versions) of Android not supporting Bluetooth MAP (message access profile) the (now current 4.4 kitkat) version of Android does support Bluetooth MAP. I verified this by rooting my S3 and throwing a early release of Android kitkat (from cyanogenmod) on it. After that everything worked fine (at first.) turns out that the early release version of kitkat is simply not stable enough. My phone battery is much worse & camera constantly locks up. I think I'm going to take the phone back to a stable version & give up the Bluetooth MAP feature. Hope this helps.

    Alleluia! I'm not alone.
I'm very sorry Jason but misery love company.
I had every intension of upgrading but after the whole Verizon/Toyota/Samsung circus (read three ring) I finally gave up simply because I don't have the brass to attempt it on my VERY functional S3. The text to speech dilemma is a "nice-to-have" but certainly not a show stopper for me. Besides Verizon is threatening to release 4.4 KitKat in the near (read 3-4 months) future so I'll wait for something a bit more stable. Fingers crossed, and hope it works.
Many thanks to everyone that has added to the thread and helped me heal:D

My 2014 Canadian SR5 has entune plus, and everything seems to work fine.... except email. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! Also, only one of my email accounts works. Rarely, a second account worked. ONCE, a third account worked. But usually only one - and that isn't all the time. My phone is a BlackBerry Torch 9810.

Just bought a TRD 2014 Tacoma and my S3 messages won't work either. Looks like KitKat 4.4 will fix it. Seems they are taking their time releasing it for Samsung S3

One can only hope that KitKat will take care of the issue. Right Verizon won't even own up to a date. Just saying 2-4 months.

Hello, I'm Carlos, 1st time poster on this forum as I just got my 2014 Taco last week and became a member. Like Jason79 and hankk, I have the Entune Plus system and can't get the read text function to work - again. Here's what I find to be a tad different, last week when I first got the truck my daughter sent me a text with a few choice words (she's 27) and the system read it to me flawlessly. That was the only text that ever came thru and I have not been able to get it to work since. I have had the Galaxy S4 with T-Mo for about a year running Android v. 4.3 Jellybean. I just find it strange that it did work one time and then - nothing. I can't transfer messages either with an error to the effect of " Messages can not be uploaded", although my directory and recent calls transferred fine. I would like to get this to work since I think the function could be very practical (if it worked), especially here in the great state of Maryland. All else seems to be working fine. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are very welcome.

Google play does work with my Galaxy S4. I think this is one of the best parts of the entire head unit. I have to press the up arrow to skip to next song. I won't keep the satelitte radio sub since it goes out every time I pass under a bridge so google play is nice to have.
