What is the power plant in that rig. sounds like it is bouncing off the rev limiter.
Dakar 4x4 vehicles are limited to 10" wheel travel and smaller tire size, not sure what size but limited. The engine also has restricter plates per fia rules.

2 wheel drive vehicles are allowed more power, still limited, and larger tires up to 35's i think.

FIA rules are odd. and there are really no completely unlimited classes in Dakar. I think robby Gordons hummer ran a 420 horse ls3 restricted.

Commenting on the new Dakar Hilux, Hall confirmed it would again feature independent rear suspension and would incorporate a number of changes designed to make it faster. “We will be taking into account everything we have learnt on the past two Dakars as well as looking at how we can obtain some more power.

Toyota needs to start doing versions of the Tacoma like this.... they would send their sales through the roof....

I was thinking about it the other day.. If they did the same thing Audi does with the R8 LMS with that truck it would be game over... Dunno if you are all familiar with it but Audi sells R8 LMS cars and provides some extent of factory support under the moniker Audi Sport Customer Racing. If Toyota did this I would consider getting some coin together and running a private Baja team.
